Possible easier fix for 2GB Memory cap problem?

For people with Win 64 render problems. Download and run http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=112556Large Address Aware from the techPowerUp forum [/link] on VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe. I can't any credit for this - it was found by http://support.magix.net/boards/magix/index.php?showtopic=53914&pid=291420&mode=threaded&start=#entry291420Mpala64 [/link] at the Magix Movie Edit Pro forum where there's an explanation for why it works (the feature set for MEP and VMS is different enough to justify using both, and both were having Win 64 render problems). It makes sense - I haven't tried it on any really large renders yet, perhaps if you do you can report back

Hi Rainer. Thanks for this. All my Low Memory problems have disappeared. I was tearing my hair out trying to render less than 30 small MPEG clips and getting low memory errors (even though I have 8GB in my WIN7 64 machine). I have since successfully rendered over an hours worth of NTSC MPEG clips into a PAL movie with no problem at all. I can even minimise VMS and work on other applications without VMS crashing (which it did all the time before LAA).
Once again, thank you for saving my sanity.
By the way. I wonder why SonyCreativeSoftware doesn't tell anyone about this?

Incredible. That worked in less than 60 seconds. Thank you!!!

Tried it (only on a 2 minute video so far) and can now render HD-no "Low Memory" error.

Sony-Wake up and provide an update.

Jack, thanks for the heads up.

How/where do you get this application from please.

The link in your thread looks like a discussion

I think it's that Zip file under "Version History."

Ah! Thanks Bill.

What do I put in the step 1 box? I've had a look in the VMS folder on my PC but there are many files/options.

Cheers

VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe.
(I've since moved to Pro10 - the $250 offer was too good to pass up - but just noticed this thread had been revived. I shouldn't have been so tentative. The fix resolved simply all the memory/render problems I had with VMS10 on 64 bit - I was able to do hour long renders, hundreds of large jpgs. Maybe SCS just hasn't been told).

Rainer. Thanks for this. Could I ask one more question please?

I've found three files after I ran a search on my PC for VegasMovieStudioPE100

I have found VegasMovieStudioPE100 which is an "Application" type file, VegasMovieStudioPE100.EXE-38138BFE.pf which is a "PF" type file and VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe.config which is a "CONFIG" file.

Which one shall I drop into the Large Address Aware software?

Cheers

Hi Wovian, VegasMovieStudioPE100 only. Seems your system isn't showing extensions for some file types. To fix this in Windows 7, open any folder (or just click Start > User Name), click “Organize”, scroll down, click “Folder and search options”, click “View” tab. Scroll down until you see “Hide extensions for known file types”, un-check this, click OK . VegasMovieStudioPE100 now shows as VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe (and all your other extensions show as well). It is a mystery to everyone why this isn't the default.

Thanks Rainer. Maybe the default is like this to stop people like me becoming confused!

The earlier fix for the memory cap using CFFExporer had us doing the change to 5 files = VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe
vegasmoviestudiope100k.dll
mcstdh264dec.dll
sonymvd2pro_xp.dll
wmfplug4.dll
The Large Adr Aware fix does only the .exe file - will applying the LAA to the other files help hurt, do nothing ??
