possible fix for title problems?

I realize everyone is frustrated and grasping at straws trying to get past this problem.
With that in mind, I just read the following on the Cow Vegas forum and am repeating it here for folks to try.
It makes no sense to me but it worked for the poster and stranger things have been known to happen :-)

I'm just a recent adopter of NLE editing. Started off with Movie Studio Platinum 9, which gave me no problems with Media Generated text titles. Liked the program so took up an Amazon special offer to upgrade to Pro 9, which I immediately upgraded to 9.0a. First few days also had no problems with my titles, then suddenly they all disappeared when reloading. Was about to revert to Movie Studio when I recalled that between working & not working I had unchecked the Option to use the Media Manager (in Preferences). So I re-checked this option, redid my titles ... and since then (touch wood) my Media Generated titles have been stable through several shutdowns. So maybe this is a viable workaround for this bug (it must be a bug, since I can't imagine that this is a designed consequence of the option in question). Hope it works for you too :)

I agree that this makes no sense -- but I tried "checking media manager". Did not work for me. .. The problem with all text graphics reverting to their orig preset values continues. It's easy to reproduce on a veg file that has been saved at least once. One way it seems to be triggered is by an UNDO after a copy and paste of a text graphic. There may be other ways -- but generally I think it has to do with UNDO. Maybe you can post on Cow Vegas Forum and see if this particular user can reproduce the bug as described here Text bug

It's interesting that at least in the test I just ran if I do the UNDO after a copy and paste of a text graphic, all the text graphics revert to their original preset values. At that point I can do a REDO (Ctrl-Y) and all the text graphics bounce back as they were prior to the undo.
I didn't notice this before. Can anyone reproduce this behavior?

The real problem is that however it happens the user is unaware it happened and saves (over-writes) the file numerous times and has no ability to retrieve the text graphics. This is why saving versions of your veg is always a good thing to do. It's rescued me on numerous occasions in the past long before 9.0a. If using 9.0a .. take care with UNDO, especially if you are doing a long series of UNDO.

Done. I'll let you know what he says.

I was able to reproduce what you asked, the redo brings it back... but in my case, my text just disappears, it doesn't revert, it just disappears altogether....

I think In each case the text graphic reverts to its original preset value. So it seems like If you started with the preset that is called "empty" in ProType Titler, it will revert to being "empty" again (you see, even "empty" is a preset). That makes it appear that your titles have all disappeared, but actually they are reverting to their original state.

My workaround suggestion is to prepare text and other kind of generated media within Vegas Pro 8 and use the nested V8 file in the Vegas Pro 9.0a project.

Hi Mike,
I (probably incorrectly) posted the results of a test last night in xberks thread about a generated media bug. It was late and I wasn't very bright at the hour. I can move it over here if you think it would be better.
I was not able to confirm that 'enable Media Manager' made any difference, or xberk's gen media issue either, but the undo redo text reversion problem was consistently reproducable and recorded action by action.

I think my workaround for the present will simply be to use undo with the greatest of care, turn off autosave, and save frequently using Ethan Winer's scheme (001,002 etc.).

The old rule from the Autocad/Win98 days was, 'Every time you finish something you don't want to do again, save'. -Works here, but watch that timeline!

Given the consensus that doing any titling should be done in a different application, what app would you guys recommend for titling? I've played with AE, Boris and TBH, they're way over my head and available time I have to learn something like this. I don't want/need any cheesy titling effects - I'm looking to improve my businesses image for services in shooting/editing. What about Digital Juice??? I have no experience with motion graphics/titling apps so any input would be appreciated.
