Possible reason/fix, opening project slow and timeline freezes [VP17]

VELTEN wrote on 9/4/2019, 4:58 AM

I've been having 90 seconds long wait times when opening VP17 projects and when I zoom out on the timeline it just freezes for multiple minutes.

I finally found something that might have worked for me, I disabled "thumbnails to show video events" under the video tab in the settings. Now my project loads in 5 seconds, this wasn't a problem with VP16 so I assume this is a bug.

I hope Magix can solve this by the next version.

Just for reference

Maybe they give you first the possibility to try Dyn. RAM set to 0 or to the default 200.😉

Tried it ;)

No difference when at 0MB (auto) or 200MB, also tried 10240mb, 2048mb, 6144mb.

Again no difference for the problem I had.

Like I said in the post this was not a problem in VP16, hense why I hope they can fix this bug by the next version(VP17 version/update)

The load times on my current project look like this:
VP16 20 sec, but not all thumbnails are built yet.
VP17 20 sec without TL thumbnails 200MB RAM
22 sec without TL thumbnails 0 MB RAM
           60 sec with TL thumbnails

Tbh didn't know thumbnails had this of a huge effect before today, the project I was working on was just freezing all the time(apparently) because of the thumbnails.

Since I made this post I finished the project and there was only one time my timeline froze (VP17 stopped responding) and this seems to be because the file I was working with at the time was lossless so it froze for a sec.

But like I said in the post, my previous experience with VP16 it never behaved like VP17 does for me(with thumbnails on)

@j-v i also tried the different dyn. RAM settings and it made no difference.. the only way to have it loading fast (or sometimes at all - if there's more then 2-3hrs of footage on the timeline it sometimes just crashes... if lucky just freezes for a while) is as @VELTEN said to dissable the thumbnails... which is really really annoying.

v16 works fine (no matter the ram settings) , and for now it's where i have to start the projects

@VELTEN

You are not alone with the thumbnails problem. It was raised not long after VP17's release almost a month ago. If you do a forum Search using the keyword 'thumbnails' limited to the last month, you'll find lots of hits such as:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/a-few-questions-for-the-developers--116531/#ca724784

You are right … hopefully it will be resolved in the next build of VP17.

@redpaw @Dexcon Glad to see I am not the only one experiencing this and that there is at least a workaround, but yes like you said @redpaw it is quite annoying.

I think you all open a project by doubleclicking or rightclicking a veg.
Due to more reasons (also in the past) I always start Vegas by clicking the Vegas startbutton and after the start open a project.
There I don't see any difference in starting time of VPro 17 with "o" or "all" thumbnails selected. My startingtime of VPro 17 is always 11 sec.,exactly the same as VP15 and 16.

@j-v ... just my experience … it doesn't seem to matter from where I open a veg project - outside or from within VP (any version) - load time is always about the same.
