Postscript fonts - eureka!

It is possible to use Postscript fonts in both Vegas 4.0 (at least in the Text generator) and DVD Architect.

1. In DVD Architect, Postscript fonts aren't included in the list of fonts and text pasted into text boxes doesn't retain any formatting it may have been copied with (reasonably enough).

Postscript fonts can however be specified as part of a customised theme and then seem to work perfectly well. The text boxes don't appear to understand Unicode but that's another matter.

2. In Vegas 4.0 the font list once again excludes everything other than TrueType and TrueType-flavoured OpenType fonts but text pasted into the Text Input Area retains its formatting, even if a Postscript font has been specified.

What is extremely striking is that all of the properties and effects then remain available, i.e. it makes no difference whether TrueType or Postscript fonts are used. This is the case whether the font is Type 1, a Multiple Master or CFF-flavoured OpenType. It also applies in Vegas Video 3.0 despite it having been stated that it 'supports TT fonts only'.

Why therefore aren't Postscript fonts included in the font lists? It almost begins to look like nothing but a bug. Could someone at Sonic Foundry comment? SonicEPM?

The point is it is supported. In the Text generator and DVD Architect, Postscript fonts aren't listed but they can be used and seem to work fine.

I probably wouldn't have looked into this any further if it hadn't occurred to me to see what happened if one specified a Postscript font in a custom theme. Now I'm wondering why on earth the developers should, in essence, conceal the fact that Postscript fonts can be used like any others.
