Potential GPU Damage - From New 572.16 Driver 50/40 series Cards

Just a heads up that reports are filtering through that the new driver 572.16 recently released for the 50 series cards (If you were lucky to get one) can seriously permanently damage the card. The reports relate to the 5090 at the moment but users of 40 series have reported black screens which seems to be the initial phase of failure. No reports so far of 30/20 series being affected. One solution is to roll back to 566.36 which released last Dec as an interim safety fix. (this would mean the 50 series not being recognised by windows but may save your card until the issue has been resolved). Not sure if Studio Driver version is affected but better safe than sorry. I have rolled back to 566.36 for my 4080S and 1080Ti in case.

Update: In the above video comments some users of both 30 and 20 series have seen black screens and odd behaviour.

I did see this also. Some people on line say if you put the 50 series card in the PCIe 4 slot or change the BIOS to PCIe 4 that the card will be recognized by Windows. They seem to think it is a PCIe 5 issue?

I am running a Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO with the latest NVIDIA driver 572.16. So far I have been stable no crashes. I have done a few test renders with Vegas with Voukoder Pro NVIDIA X264 preset with no problems. I do not game on my system. I do not have any games installed on my PC.

I have to admit I have been tempted to buy the 5090 FE, and sell my 4090. BUT nobody can get the 5090 or 5080. On Ebay the used 4090's are selling for $1,700 and up past $2,000 (US). Even if I sold my 4090 at the low end the 5090 would cost me with tax about $450. But as soon as stock for the 5090's become available the 4090's will drop in price. I keep looking a few time a day to see if I can get lucky to find a 5090 FE through Best Buy.

I will wait and see what happens. As per sites on YouTube stock might start rolling in around end of February or early March. That is just a guess on their part.
