If you are really going to do a professional looking presentation and want to add video plus all sorts of other bells and whistles (without the steep learning curve of Macromedia), I would recommend going to http://www.scala.com.

I'm the asst. webmaster there and we make two products designed specifically for this type of application. Because, frankly, we all know that PowerPoint sucks. Check out the free demos of iplay studio ($59) or InfoChannel Designer ($989) and then upgrade to which you feel is better for you. Hope this helps!

For PowerPoint (on Windows) you just insert movies like you do any other object. There is an issue with MPEG importing not working correctly. The FAQ on MS's website is: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q202/0/70.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=MPEG&rnk=2&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=PPT2000
