"Pre" editing raw footage

Assume I have off-loaded to my PC a dozen clips of various lengths. Assume further that half of these clips have a large amount of unusable footage. I want to pre-edit these clips to make them both smaller and more manageable in future projects.

My question... must I bring each clip into VMS... edit... then render and save? ...or is there a more time-efficient way to quickly edit and replace these clips on my hard drive?

thx,

What version of VMS do you have? If not v9, I might suggest creating subclips as described HERE as an option. If you have v9, subclips are no longer available.

But I have a feeling that bringing each clip into the timeline is going to be required. Once you do, either spit the video at your in/out points and delete unwanted video and render to new file. Or create markers for you in/out points, then create loop points and render loop point only to create individual files for each.

Either way, it's going to take time.
