Pre-NAB stuff

Going into our fourth day of NAB and the post production conference, it's been really good to meet several guys from this and other forums. The DV and Production track at NAB are so far, the most attended tracks/sessions. The Vegas and ACID sessions have been very popular, and even before the show has started, the FCP and AVID folks are commenting on the Vegas buzz. It's kinda fun, listening to people talk in the hallways.

Today is the day that the exhibition floor started loading in. The Sony booth is very beautiful, as expected. Vegas won't have the big world stage like it had last year, but it's prominently displayed in the main areas of the Sony booth. I also counted (so far) 21 vendors using Vegas as the display system of choice in their booths. This is the biggest NAB yet, and it is simply huge. This many days in early, it's already hard to get around. Wear good shoes, be prepared for hot, hot sun, and hanging with a lot of people.

If you're planning on making the Vegas Users party, PLEASE, PLEASE register before Midnight Sunday night. We're to the point that we've doubled our expected capacity, and we've been asked to hire additional security for the event. It will likely be standing room only in a room designed to seat 300. We're pulling chairs out to make room, and have doubled the catering order and liquor order. If you haven't registered, you'll be able to attend, but you'll have to pay for anything you want to eat or drink. Catering cannot be ordered after Monday morning.

Other things of note, the NAB bookstore is prominently displaying all things Vegas, same with other Sony products, due to the proximity of the Sony booth to the South Hall bookstore. You'll want to check out the north hall bookstore though, as it's twice as big. There are some really great T shirts in the store this year.
New announcements from Serious Magic, Nero, Audio Technica, Bogen, and other companies seem to have a fair amount of buzz in the Vegas-related world, more to come.
If you can't make it up to the Post Production area, please find me in the Artbeats booth at whatever time they've got posted that I'll be there. I've been given a *few* free passes to the Post Production Conference sessions that I can hand out, they're worth 700.00 each. I'd prefer to give them to community members. I'll also be signing autographs in the Audio Technica booth on Wednesday, but you'll want passes to the conference before then, I'd guess.
I'm looking forward to the live chat from NAB on Wednesday night, hope to see you all there.

Thanks for the update Spot.

"New announcements from Serious Magic, Nero, Audio Technica, Bogen, and other companies seem to have a fair amount of buzz in the Vegas-related world, more to come."

I am hoping what I heard a few weeks ago is true that Sony has incorporated Nero's Mpeg-4 ASP and H.264 AVC codecs and that they found a way to include Live, direct to disk recording like DVRack with scopes and monitoring.

From all the press releases and mag ads, it seems like Vegas 6 and DVDA3 seem like MUST HAVE products for any serious editor.

Hopefully they will have a trial available Monday morning so we can all stop salivating.

Not all of use are dumb enough to salivate awaiting a software release because of what you read in a press release or magazine ads. In fact if all the pre release hype is accurate I doubt I will upgrade. Haven't heard of a single "must have" new feature that I "got to have".

P. T. Barnum would be smiling.

From a thread a few days back: "Out of respect for others on this forum minus the obvious jerk, I will no longer be reading nor responding to any more of his posts.
pmaster"

I guess you don't know how to use ignore user and darn, its so simple.

Jerks come in all shapes and sizes. Some are even unemployed teachers. You don't have the smarts to debate me. I find it very amusing that you think only those that agree with a position you hold are allowed to post. Afterall, isn't that what always starts threads going South? Sure it is. Its always the same jerks bitching and moaning, totally unable to resists taking cheap shots and jerks saying they are going to ignore someone they simply can't get along with, but obviously don't have the willpower to follow through on what they said. Lets see how many more jerks can't resist.

Patrick, I'd suggest you ignore him, he's not worth the effort.

Nat, I am assuming he has replied. Ignore button works well.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Love is the only thing that can save this poor creature, and I am going to convince him that he is loved even at the cost of my own life. No matter what you hear in there, no matter how cruelly I beg you, no matter how terribly I may scream, do not open this door or you will undo everything I have worked for. Do you understand? Do not open this door.
Inga: Yes, Doctor.
Igor: Nice working with ya.
[Dr. Frederick Frankenstein goes into the room with The Monster. The Monster wakes up]
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Let me out. Let me out of here. Get me the hell out of here. What's the matter with you people? I was joking! Don't you know a joke when you hear one? HA-HA-HA-HA. Jesus Christ, get me out of here! Open this goddamn door or I'll kick your rotten heads in! Mommy!
