Going into our fourth day of NAB and the post production conference, it's been really good to meet several guys from this and other forums. The DV and Production track at NAB are so far, the most attended tracks/sessions. The Vegas and ACID sessions have been very popular, and even before the show has started, the FCP and AVID folks are commenting on the Vegas buzz. It's kinda fun, listening to people talk in the hallways.
Today is the day that the exhibition floor started loading in. The Sony booth is very beautiful, as expected. Vegas won't have the big world stage like it had last year, but it's prominently displayed in the main areas of the Sony booth. I also counted (so far) 21 vendors using Vegas as the display system of choice in their booths. This is the biggest NAB yet, and it is simply huge. This many days in early, it's already hard to get around. Wear good shoes, be prepared for hot, hot sun, and hanging with a lot of people.
If you're planning on making the Vegas Users party, PLEASE, PLEASE register before Midnight Sunday night. We're to the point that we've doubled our expected capacity, and we've been asked to hire additional security for the event. It will likely be standing room only in a room designed to seat 300. We're pulling chairs out to make room, and have doubled the catering order and liquor order. If you haven't registered, you'll be able to attend, but you'll have to pay for anything you want to eat or drink. Catering cannot be ordered after Monday morning.
Other things of note, the NAB bookstore is prominently displaying all things Vegas, same with other Sony products, due to the proximity of the Sony booth to the South Hall bookstore. You'll want to check out the north hall bookstore though, as it's twice as big. There are some really great T shirts in the store this year.
New announcements from Serious Magic, Nero, Audio Technica, Bogen, and other companies seem to have a fair amount of buzz in the Vegas-related world, more to come.
If you can't make it up to the Post Production area, please find me in the Artbeats booth at whatever time they've got posted that I'll be there. I've been given a *few* free passes to the Post Production Conference sessions that I can hand out, they're worth 700.00 each. I'd prefer to give them to community members. I'll also be signing autographs in the Audio Technica booth on Wednesday, but you'll want passes to the conference before then, I'd guess.
I'm looking forward to the live chat from NAB on Wednesday night, hope to see you all there.
