Yes. Pick settings appropriate for the media you're using, the type of project you're creating, and the format of the output.

Without knowing those things we can't give you any more specific answers than that.

Right - and do not try to make a huge project in one cut without first using some time trying out the best settings for your media and for your final result.

i am going to make a video project with my home videos and final project MUST be in 16:9 Ratio and the video quality MUST be VERY VERY GOOD.COULD YOU KINDLY HELP ME WITH THIS.

At the moment i am trying to get to know the sony vegas platinum-8

Are your source videos SD widescreen or HD? Will your output be SD widescreen or HD? What format are your source videos; what file types? How are you going to be watching the videos; what player and what type of screen?

At the moment the best i can possibly suggest is that if your video is a standard definition project then go to file / properties and pick DV widescreen (NTSC or PAL depends on where in the world you are). If it's HD then choose one of the HD templates. Then start playing and see what happens.
