prerendering template: NTSC DV vs. Default Template

Hello,
I noticed that when I prerender a video clip, I get a 'stuttery' effect when rendered. For example, a clip of something rotating ends up looking like a fast stop motion effect, but not everywhere in the clip.
I found that if I change the Template field in the 'Prerender Video' dialog box from 'NTSC DV' to 'Default Template(uncompressed)', this problem disappears.

Can anyone explain why this behavior happens? FYI, I'm rendering to 'Video for Windows'.

thanks,
TeX

If you are working with DV source material, in a DV project, and prerender as DV, you should get smooth playback (the opposite of what you describe, since uncompressed at the same frame size is a much bigger file).

What is your source material (video) and what are you outputting to (DV? MJPEG? web format?)

I noticed the same thing. I hads several clips on a timeline using the DVD preset but kicked up the average bitrate a little. I see stuttering on only one clip when playing back the DVD. I checked the avi file & saw no stuttering & also the rendered file & on a computer screen saw no stuttering. I'm using Reel DVD for authoring. Any suggestions? Fiels are set correctly to lower field.

So when you play the DVD on your TV you're seeing the stutter? You don't see the stutter on your computer?

And the stutter only occurs occasionally -- for the scenes with heavy motion -- and only at the higher bitrate?

Sounds like your DVD player cannot keep up with the higher bitrates.

I captured these clips from miniDV via firewire using vegas video 3.0 and using all the default settings. I'm just editing a video that I'll be putting back out to miniDV when I'm done - nothing fancy!

I figured out the problem my testing permutations in a 'custom' template. The problem was that 'Motion blur type' was on 'Gaussian'. Once I set this to 'None', the problem disappeared!
