I had a video with lots of cuts/transitions/slo-mo's... I would save the file, open it in another instance of Vegas, then render out the first instance of Vegas while continuing working on the project in the 2nd window. Worked good for me, and when renmdering out to Mpeg for DVD, Vegas doesn't need to re-render all the transitions, etc.

So yeah, it can be faster.

I prerender to avi first, so I can print to tape, then render the avi files by themselves into mpeg2. It is faster, as the computer doesn't have to re-render cuts, dissolves and effects.
