Preserve layers in Photoshop files

PassTheHat wrote on 9/3/2009, 4:46 PM
I just started editing a new short film edit (my first with Vegas since switching from Final Cut). I import the Photoshop PSD file and it only has one layer so it only has one track. I’m used to setting several layers in Photoshop and then being able to use each as a separate video clip (event) after importing into the NLE. I can make several PSD files and import each layer separately but that’s a pain especially when you want exact positioning for each layer/event. Is there a preserve layers checkbox somewhere in Vegas? Thanks in advance.

A lot of us have been begging for this for a long time but the answer is still no :-(

No layers in Vegas

Link above has a good discussion in how to work around.

A little work around that I've used before is to save Photoship layers as files and import them into Vegas. In Photoshop - files - scripts - export layers to files. Not exactly a smooth move but it works.

Sorry for the dupe, didn't read all the thread referenced above.

Boy, wouldn't that be nice!
I can think of several projects over the years that this feature would have been a real blessing!

Thanks for the link. I should have searched first. Sorry. I think that I’ll use the switch layers on and off then Save As work around. However, doesn’t the Save As make me reopen the original file each time I create this single layer PSD? And wouldn’t I be better off, less overhead in Vegas, if I save as PNG so Vegas gets a file that is just flat?

I just thought why, despite the overhead, it would be better not to use PNG. If I want to reedit, I just use the PSD as opposed to re-saving with the same name so it shows up in the same place in the Vegas timeline.
