Presets - where?

Tim Stannard wrote on 11/3/2007, 11:19 AM
Firstly an apology, I KNOW I've read this here before, but I've been searching here and elsewhere for an hour and can't find the info I want.

(Background)
Sony Support suggest that to fix my current problem (ProT hanging) I uninstall ALL SCS apps and reinstall. I've no reason to suppose this will work but I have to bow down to their experience.
OK, That's a doddle, but a real PITA given I've 4 SCS apps to deal with.
Most importantly I do NOT want to lose some colour correction presets and I cannot figure where they're stored.

A bit of searching led me to the Preset Manager but after installing that it only seems to manage FX chains NOT the individual presets within the FX.

I've searched for any files containing the names I've assigned to the saved presets to no avail.

This is so simple - what have I missed? Someone? Please?

Knowledgebase Answer ID 608 and 267 might give a clue.

Better still in the knowledgebase just search for "Preset Manager",
there's quite a few articles. Just be warned I've never done any of this, no warranty expressed or implied :)

I'm here!

Been looking - and yes .. I had an issue with having deleted my Chains/PLUGS sometime back and I was fortunate to have made a windoze BU. Easy-peasy done! But it was during this fraught period and useful process I DID ask SONY about the actual Presets. It did have something to do with the registry - of course! - but other than that I'm kinda memory challenged? I suppose, Tim, what you might do is create a test Preset, call/save it "TimForFindingPreset" then go search for it?

Dunno?

And yes, this would be a good thing to have available. I DID read your thread here and sent maybe 15 minutes doing Vegas searches - drawn blanks so far.

They're in the system registry. To me the best response to that is WTF?!

Thanks Guys
I did as you suggested Grazie, and created a preset foir whic I searched. I searched all files, I searched the contents of all files.
But I didn't search the registry!
Ho hum....

Go read the two knowledge base articles. They'll help put you on the right track.

OK I now know I'm losing the plot.
Having posted this query a couple of weeks ago and received the answer (it's in the registry) I finally got round to preparing to uninstall everything today.
Thought I'd check back here to check where in the registry to find that less than three months ago I responded to a virtually identical query of Grazie's in http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=541869

So, I found the answer to a problem someone else had. Experienced the problem myself a few weeks later. Knew I'd seen the answer here and asked where?

I'm so sorry for wasting everone's time.

LOL!

Believe me, you're not alone. Gives meaning to the phrase "I've forgotten more than you'll ever know".

Tim, I was under the impression you were asking something different?

I had a backup of my C: drive. It was an easy job to locate these off of that. They have an extension of DXP. That did it and I restored FROM this C: backup. I didn't mess with the registry at all.
