Presidential debate camera

In at least the last two of the debates, I noticed that in the tight shots (most of the debate) if the candidates brought their hands up in front of their dark suits, the background would pulse.

Did they expect much change in the lighting during the debates?? Why not set, and lock the aperature?

It was rather distracting.

"It was rather distracting." . . . er . .bored?

Got this real vivid picture of you Rexy looking for something to keep your attention . . . . must mean something .. US polls shown here in the UK suggest:

Bush 45%

Kerry 45%

... maybe the other 10% are videographers ?

. . but yeah . . I do understand . .

I was definately NOT bored.

I think this may be the most important debates during my lifetime. All the more reason not to distract with (my opinion) bad camera setup. Maybe no normal people noticed it, but I doubt that.

Think I changed channels in one debate and saw the same thing.

As an aside...
Tonight, I lost my glasses somewhere as the debate was starting. I kept searching for them randomly in all the expected places. Never found them early during the deabtes, so settled down and watched "fuzzy" performances, thinking there must be a cosmic message. As soon as the debates ended, I went into another room I had passed through on my searches and found them immediately. I don't know yet what the cosmic message was, but only being able to find my glasses after speaks something (yet unclear) to me.

Opinions accepted.

Oh and...

I think Bush turned red the first time Kerry criticised him, and stayed that way for the remainder of the debate.

I don't blame this on the camera. Didn't record it so can't confirm this. Anybody else can say yes or no?

RexA, I didn't notice Bush going red, but I did notice during the first couple questions they had a little problem with his mic feeding back a bit, or an annoying kind of echo, however you would describe it. I found it very distracting, and then I thought, "what a geek I am" to notice these things.

I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I would really like to see a "behind the scenes" on the prep for the debates from each side. I can imagine there's lots of video rehearsal, how-does-our-guy-look-on-camera, things like that.

Me too:-) It happened several times. The sound faded and the timbre changed. Even a bump or two. I was more into the content and I tend to stare off into space as I listen rather than watch, so I'm not positive of the cause. However, twice I was certain that it happened as he moved his hand in front of him. It was like his hand was in between his mouth and the mic so it got covered up. I started looking for a lapel mic then blew it off.
