Preview Button in Effects non functional

I highlight an isolated audio take / right click and select "Apply Real Time Event" / Apply a chorus / click the arrow play button in the upper right to preview but never hear any playback.

Please help fir it is hard to apply an effect without hearing the live adjustments.

I think effects applied to audio Events need rendering before you can hear them.

To try effects out "live" apply them at Track level.
