Preview Clip Frame Issue

Oki wrote on 3/9/2024, 7:03 PM

I still use Vegas Pro version 15, having upgraded yearly since version 7. I notice that when you place the timeline cursor at the start of of any video clip in the timeline that the video preview will either show a black screen if there isn't a clip immediately preceding the one you select, or it will show the final frame of the preceding clip. It used to show the first frame of the clip that you put the cursor on, which is preferable for me. I don't know why it changed in 15 or if newer versions rectified it, but is there a way to show the first frame of any clip by placing the cursor at the start of a clip? Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.

@Oki Do you happen to have Quantize to Frames turned off in Options? That can cause the preview to be black even when the cursor is on the first frame (you think). When Quantize to Frames is turned off, it is possible to move events or place events between distinct frame markers.

Thanks for your reply Robert. It WAS turned off and that has helped a bit thank you. But what I'm noticing now is, if I put my cursor on the video clip then click and drag (to crop the clip) then let go, the clip ripples back to the timeline cursor line, but again the preview is black until I click my mouse on the timeline cursor. It's like the timeline cursor isn't in fact butted up against the clip, even thought the clip rippled left to that timeline cursor. I hope that makes sense. In the past, if I cropped the clip in that fashion and it rippled back to the timeline cursor, the first frame of that clip would preview automatically. Now I have to click my mouse at the start of the clip. At least you solved one part of it for me, thanks.

Actually, somehow now it's not doing that last issue anymore. It all appears solved now. Thanks.
