Preview just, stops working?

Anyone have this problem?

I've been using the trimmer and the media preview in the explorer window a lot. Sometimes, and I'm not sure what the trigger is that causes this to happen, my preview window just dies. I'll go back to show something on the timeline, and I hit play, and the cursor slides down the timeline just like it's playing, but no video or audio, the preview window just stays dark Eventually after messing around a bit and pressing play in different windows it will receover.

What are you capturing the media with? On slower systems with less RAM, this happens in only Trimmer and Explorer because those are unbuffered, or rather differently buffered playback. However, I only experience this short hangs when I'm working with media that didn't come from Vegas, or from a DV source.

This is not a capture problem, only playback and editing.

The media is in AVIs (DV format) on the disk, that were previously captured from my DV camcorder.

Disk is a bit slow, external USB. I have some other issues with occasional cutouts in playback, but this is different. The interface is completely working; buttons press, windows move, etc. Playback can be started and stopped; I just don't get anything.

I've already broken down and ordered an internal drive to supplement this external disk. It's getting full anyway. Who ever though 120GB was so small? :)
