Preview Monitor vis HDMI

I can not set up my preview monitor via HDMI without loosing the Vegas screen..

I have the windows secondary display selected and when I "identify monitors" my HD 1080p LCD TV connected to my computer via HDMI shows correctly as monitor #2. BUT, when I select secondary display from the preview window the computer screen goes to full preview as well as the secondary monitor?

Before configuring/using in Vegas, your second monitor must be configured as Extended (rather than cloned) in your Windows graphics card utility (is it ATI or nVidia?).

AMD TR 2990WX CPU | MSI X399 CARBON AC | 64GB RAM@XMP2933  | 2x RTX 2080Ti GPU | 4x 3TB WD Black RAID0 media drive | 3x 1TB NVMe RAID0 cache drive | SSD SATA system drive | AX1600i PSU | Decklink 12G Extreme | Samsung UHD reference monitor (calibrated)

'morning Piotr:
It's ATI Radeon HD2600XT. The secondary monitor is checked as as extended and the laptop is selected as extended and main monitor. It seems strange that the laptop screen is also checked as extended but I can not uncheck that?

Hi Michael,
Frankly, I have no experience with using HDMI output to the secondary monitor.

Are you using the DVI jack converted to HDMI to feed the secondary monitor or the "overlay"?

Are you certain your laptop can support two monitors?

Most can't. The DVI / HDMI output on the back is a clone of what is on the internal LCD effectively.

Bob.

You might have got it Bob. It's an HP 20" XPS or whatever. So I guess I will start a new thread - "Which laptop with True (not clone) HDMI out for Vegas Monitoring?"
