Only Scrubbing - not "Rolling". Why would you want to do that? - Grazie

You mean computer screen and external monitor I think. The answer is yes......via firewire.

John? ONly Scrubbing . . not rel time running - even the way you suggest. I only get Preview on monitor OR pc . . not AT the same time in real time .. . do you?

Grazie, I've always had preview on external monitor AND PC, first with a Canopus ADVC 100 and now with the JVC miniDV/SVHS decks.
Or am I misunderstanding you?

Woah! You guys can actually Preview in real time on both your pc and ext monitor SIMULTANEOUSLY? . .Well I can't . . Grazie

Well I can't

You've got the same JVC video monitor I do. How are you feeding it?

Mike

Mike?

I've got dual LCDs for Vegas. The preview window sits in the bottom right of the monitor on the right. What's in the preview window is also on my video monitor.

We are not talking about 2 pc monitors . .we are talking about an external monitor, we are not talking about LCDs - dual or otherwise. We are talking about streaming a signal OUT via f/w through a convertor to a CRT. We are not talking about attanging where one puts the Preview screeen - we ARE talkling about using a CRT for previewing in realtime. Are you pulling my leg Mike?

Grazie

. .and can you see this and having it MOVING in reltime SIMULTANEOUSLY. Do you see both pc LCD AND your External CRT working in realtime?

You can't with a single external monitor. If you feed an external then the preview window on your PC only shows the WORDS preview on external monitor.

From the DMN Charlie White article on V6;

''Another great addition to Vegas is a new monitoring option called Windows Secondary Display. This allows you to feed the program video straight from your timeline via DVI or VGA into another monitor. Besides perhaps eliminating the need to buy a specific (and oftentimes expensive) HDTV monitor for your edit suite, it could also be practical for feeding an HD signal to a client monitor.''

It seems so. John.

J_Mac - You are quoting about V6, a package that, both you and I know, is NOT released yet. So, V5 which I do have, can not. So your "It seems so. John." must be that you are referring to something that is not released yet!

I have been answering the question before us at the present time and with V6 not being available - yet. So at present, not having V6 on my pc - it would appear not.

Best regards,

Grazie

You can't with a single external monitor.

Doh!! Thanks for the smack with the 2x4 BillyBoy. You're right, of course. When the external monitor is on, preview is NOT. Apologies to Grazie (and anyone else) for leading them astray. My only excuse for the lack of brain cells today is a cold I'm determined to beat before I leave for NAB tomorrow morning :-)

AND you are going to NAB?

Damn right I am. I've been waiting 31 years to be able to go and nothing's stopping me this time. Not even the fact that my wife's birthday is in the middle of it :-)

Mike

edit: watch for me in the class stream. I'll be the guy waving at you!!

I just got back to this thread. The answer is NO not simultaneaously, but since Hendrix wasn't clear with his original question and never posted back here again I was trying to read between the lines. I figured he was asking whether one could hook up an external monitor and go back and forth between them, but maybe he did mean simultaneously. Who knows?

Great stuff John! - So maybe, when he reads ALL this, he WILL see that he may not have explained enough. I agree. After my first, initial clumsy attempt, I often need to provide a subsequent clarification to explain myself. Sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 goes at it. I guess I need patient people around me - HUH!

Best regards,

Futz - lol!

(ok .. G takes deep breath )

J - So, to be ABSOLUTELY clear, you mean simultaneously AND simultaneous motion? Yes? If this is the case, then please tell me, why you wish to have this happen? I can only LOOK at one at a time! You gotta a third eye . . somewhere?

Now I'm intrigued!
