Preview only showing in Frames, not full motion

Brand new user here - I must have hit a wrong button somewhere because when I try to preview my work in the video preview, I hear the audio, but my video only shows a few frames, several seconds apart, not in full motion. If I open the video track in the trimmer, it shows in full motion. Any ideas on how to correct this?

Thanks!

Change the setting in the preview window from good or best to preview(auto)

Hi Terry,

Thanks for responding. I made the change to Preview (auto), but it is still doing the same thing. Any other ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Take about a 10 second section and highlight it, then make a RAM render of that section and then play it. Did that section play right then?

Depending on the strength of you computer, the preview window nearly always plays full lmotion at the lowest setting. The higher the setting, the more you are asking the processer to do when it shows it to you. To try and keep up with real time it will drop frames if it can't keep up. If you have other programs running or even just processes they may be enough to kill the rate of the preview, again depending on the muscle of your computer.

Hi Terry,

I appreciate your help here. Unfortunately, I am still unable to do a full motion preview. My computer has plenty of processing power and the Trimmer shows the video just fine. The preview was working when I did a test video earlier. Then, when I made another small test video, I lost the preview. The audio goes along just fine, but the frames seem to be almost in a slideshow format. When the next frame number goes up, it will show the frame that corresponds to the audio, then several seconds go by, another frame that point in time.

Assuming your system meets the system requirements, the next step would be to start a new project and see if that has the preview problem also.

Or maybe re-start VMS, or even your system. I've occassionally found that my system resources are low for whatever reason, and it appears to begin affecting on VMS' preview. You might be able to check if that is a factor in your case by looking at the task manager.
