Preview problem - Man We really need a NEW VEGAS

So for some odd reason my Vegas will not playback footage at all right now. It works fine on my other system, but today it doen't want to work on my assisstants bay.

We have a 64 bit system so I have 8.1
I've restarted the system and even tried to go back to 8.0, but 8.0 just keeps crashing. The other computer is almost the same configuration but it doesn't sem to have any of the same problems.

Anyway when I try to play back footage it says preview error.

I've check to make sure the project prefs are the same as the footage and they are.

Any suggestions.

Ha.... Nevermind I guess this is an error for anyone else or for programers to fix on the next update or version, which we need badly.

I guess vegas 8.1 doesn't like external sound cards. I'm using a motu system to mix multi channel ADR into vegas. So turning that off seemed to fix that.

Yeah 8.1 and 8.0 have a whole mess of problems, such as rendering HD sometimes. Well I hope this helps some poor soul some day.

Yup... hardware issue. Vegas does tend to be a little finicky with some of the hardware out there.

This I will say.... and someone said this before (just can't remember who) that Vegas error routines need to be boned up a little. More often than not when there is a problem you just get this instant crash. One second the program is there and the next it's gone. Not a big deal in itself, crap happens... but it sure makes the troubleshooting tougher than it has to be when the program is gone just like that and there is no error report left behind.

"Yup... hardware issue."

Indeed, Vegas doesn't work reliably with some of the pro audio hardware out there. UAD-1 was always a mess that was never resolved and the UAD-2 is a total no show. You can read about the problems in this thread.
Even Sony's own audio plugins don't work in Vegas.

could it be you're using the DX audio option in vegas? That's the only way I can do 5.1 but it does have issues.

I have been running Vegas/XP 32 bit with a Presonus Firepod for over 4 years. Rock solid. Lots of multitrack recording and mixing. As long as you don't have a wireless card Vegas and the Firepod seem to cooperate very nicely.

I am considering upgrading to the FireStudio but am wary because everything is so solid right now. I will probably wait until I eventually build a new Core i7 system. New mobo, new sound device, new video card, new OS... get all the teething over with in one big dose rather than a long drawn out affair.

I occassionally run a MOTU Traveler with 8.0c. It has problems when run with firewire video preview through a Canopus ADVC110. Since I only use the MOTU when recording multitrack audio, I simply turn off the video. A fix would be wonderful.

Otherwise, the Traveler interfaces quite nicely.

Well I found the answer to fix this problem and leave the card on as well.

The audio card has to be set at the same bit rate for example if the motu is at 49k 44.1so should Vegas.

Simple answer too bad no one knows about this.
