preview problem on external monitor

Hello,

I cannot preview a timeline containing realtime FX on an external monitor. If there are no FX, there's no problem, but if there is, the video preview focus switches back to the video preview window even if the preview on external monitor button is on. Even simple transitions count as FX in this context. Is this normal? I tried the same on a P43.2 machine, and on a dual Xeon 3.2 machine with the same results.

Any suggestions?

piper

Hi piper. This happened to me a while back. The problem (in my case) was that the 1394 card was sharing an interrupt with the graphics card. The IRQs are distributed in hardware on the motherboard, so the solution was to move the 1394 card to a different slot. The motherboard manual was useful in identifying which slots share hardware IRQs so I could pick one that was not so busy.

It could be the hardware card, but more likely is that Recompressed Frames is disabled. Go to Prefs>Video Device>Recompress Frames and you'll most likely see your external working.

Spot - you the man! I had suddenly lost my external preview in both Vegas4 and Vegas5 (due to 5 update perhaps?) but it still worked in DVDA2. Was pulling my hair and mainly wasting time trying to troubleshoot it. Your answer did the trick. Thanks a million.
