Preview render issue in 9.0a

I don't have the most powerful of edit systems, an old dual-Xeon 2.8GHz. So needless to say SHIFT-B RAM preview renders and SHIFT-M hard drive preview renders are my friend.

In going from 8.0c to 9.0 and now 9.0a, I found that normal playback was actually better on my system, but the previews seem to have a problem.

When I do a SHIFT-B or SHIFT-M preview render in Vegas Pro 8.0c, after they render they always playback at full frame rate. This is what I expect and need them to do.

But in 9.0 and now 9.0a, they only seem to work correctly after I've freshly launched Vegas. Once I do a little editing, doing a SHIFT-B or SHIFT-M preview render results in barely any better playback than without it. Say 17fps for a 29.97fps project.

But if I close Vegas Pro 9.0a, reopen it and the project and try again, the prerender will be up to full speed.

Have any of the rest of you seen this? I had reported it to SCS when 9.0 came out, but they said that the preview renders aren't always full frame rate and that was that. But like I said, this was never the case for me in 8.0c. And yes, in normal playback, 9.0 and 9.0a have no problem playing a single DV stream at full frame rate on my system, which is all the temp render to hard drive would be.

Thanks for any suggestions on a way for this to work again.

I don't have a very fast system either (Dual Core 2.13 Ghz), but using Cineform intermediates (NeoScene), and after I color correct, I temporarily shut the fx off via the switch in the Preview window while I'm editing the timeline, and I can get full preview speed.
