Preview screen black after capture begins

Hello again... longgtime away from the video forum.

Problem:
I tried to hook up an Svideo cable from my Sony camcorder into my Canopus 110 capture box at the same time my camcorder cable was plugged in.

I thought I would get better picture

When I clicked on "Capture" the preview screen went black. All was well up to that point.

I unplugged the Svid cable and returned to my normal capture method of using the stereo cable that comes with the camcorder.
I could see the video on the preview screen until I clicked on capture.

It still captures the video & audio, but it doesn't show on the preview screen once t"capture" (red button) is clicked.

Any suggestions guys?

What version of Vegas are you trying to capture with?

Movie Studio Platinum 6.0
I use it to capture on a second computer via a Canopus 110 and then edit and render on my dual core with MSP 9.0

What are you trying to capture and from what. I'm wondering why you are using a Canopus unit?

I had a very similar problem as you describe. In my case, I had ObjectDock running and once I quit it, the problem went away.

I am capturing from a Sony camcorder (stereo cable mini plug) from the cam to the Canopus 110 (rca connection) into hard drive (firewire) via MS Platinum 6.0.

Why are you wondering why I am using a Canopus. Is there a better way that's less expensive?

What is "Object Dock" and where do I find it?

I was doing alright until I tried to use an S Video cable with the Mini plug cable I had been using.

I know thta the Svid cable doesn't provide audio, so I thought I would try the two of them together. Not good.

You might try turning off "Device Control".

Are you trying to capture from an analog camcorder or a digital one?

Sony camcorder ccd-trv108 hi8 analog

In VidCap, Options / Preferences / General / Enable DV device control. Check this option only if you're capturing directly from a DV tape in a DV camcorder. If you're using a digital camcorder as a pass-through device or using any other device such as the Canopus box then uncheck this option.
