Preview to External Monitor hangs Vegas

The following started happening in the last couple days, without me having changed anything (on purpose, at least)

Whenever I select the "Preview to external monitor" button, Vegas hangs permanently whenever video is previewed (whether it be from the project source media, or the timeline, etc.)

I have been using this forever without problem. Any ideas what may have gotten slammed?

Note: Same behavior in DVDA, as well.

I had something similar happen to me awhile back.

Three questions:

1. Do you have your Dynamic RAM Preview allocation set high enough in Vegas?
I know you said this happens in DVDA, as well. But it's worth asking.

2. Are you running an actual external video monitor, or are you using a dual-head video card, sending the signal to your second computer monitor [assuming you are using two monitors]?

3. Do you have your secondary monitor display setup correctly in the Preview Device section?
Options>Preferences>Preview Device>Device

I've had issues in the past with those issues; operator error! :-)

Hope this helps. Maybe somebody else has more insight.
