Preview Window Stuttering

I recently upgraded my system from a P3-700 Win98SE to a P4 1.8 XP. I was and am still using VV3.0c. The upgrade has gone flawlessly except for a few querks.

Now, upon several minutes of editing my preview window begins to stutter during playback. I have it set at "Preview Quality." I have also noticed that my Hard Drive LED is practically blinking in synch with the stutters. I never had this problem before the upgrade. This even occurs during a clean project with a credit roll only. Any ideas? I am currently defragging my 80GB NTFS 7200rpm Video only drive in hopes that this is it, but I wasn't experiencing this before the upgrade and I literally pulled the 80GB drive from the old machine into the new one.

Any tips on optimal settings for XP that I may have missed on this forum?
Thanks.

Sorry, no help here, but wanted to mention my problem which may be relative. I am a novice re: pc's and VV compared to most all on this forum, so read and trial and error. My original problem was on the forum Audio Peak Disappears. My resolution was upgrading to 3.0c, which fixed the audio problem instantly. However, where video preview playback was fine with 3.0, it now blacks out on a regular point in time with 3.0c. So I am going to watch your forum and will create mine as Video Preview Blacks after 3.0c upgrade. (Or some such) I will have more detail in that forum, but basically Nothing within VV I tried has solved the problem. Good luck to both of us.
