Previewing BluRay ISO File

bhurst wrote on 3/1/2009, 6:53 AM
I made my first DVDA BluRay project and was surprised I only had the option to create an ISO file. In my other editor, I have multiple options.

Anyway, how do you preview the ISO. I can open it in Nero Showtime, but there is no audio and no access to menu/chapter function, although all of that works fine when previewed in DVDA.

I have read several suggestions from other forums, but none have worked.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

There are software options, I can't think of the name of the program I have since I am not at my editing computer at the moment, which allow you to mount the ISO as a virtual disk. VLC Media Player will play the individual m2ts files with audio. But I have no solution for the menus and chapter markers.

This means DVDA wasn't able to find any Blu-Ray burners on your computer. What brand / model do you have, and how is it connected (IDE, SATA, Firewire)?

No ... I didn't make myself clear. I can burn to disc.

I meant the only option I have to create files to the hard drive is ISO. I would prefer to create a BDMV folder structure. It is easier to preview before burning to disc, and it gives you direct access to the component video files for the disc.

But, my real issue is still how can I do a full preview ... menus, audio, and all ... of the ISO from my hard drive.

;-)

Install Linux and mount the ISO as a drive...

I don't think there's a similar option in Vista (I haven't found it).

I was hoping for something easier. I guess I'll just burn to an BD-RW for now.

Hi,

just an addition: I recently created a Blu-Ray structure (BDMV) on harddisk by means of TMPGEnc Authoringworks 4 and finally found that I needed to burn it to BD-RW for a complete preview still.

Actually I do not know of any software player behaving like a hardware player as soon as BDMV structures on harddisk are concerned (maybe there are some I don't know of). A guess is that this is some kind of additional copy protection, i.e., those commercial software players seem to not be allowed to play back Blu-Rays from harddisk folders. At least Nero Showtime, Win DVD 9 + Blu-Ray and PowerDVD 9 did not do so. Playback of the M2TS files was possible of course. Playback from BD-RW however worked with all three named apps.

Cheers

It is not a copy protection issue, it is a licensing issue.

PowerDVD would play the BluRay/HD-DVD hard drive folders in the initial release of V7 Ultra. Then, in subsequent updates, that ability was removed. I think this was only for US product. UK version still has the feature.

I recently got a new PC, and when I installed the original version (I kept the downloaded install file) I had the ability again. I just have to be sure not to upgrade.

PowerDVD doesn't work for me at all. What version are you using, and how are you getting it to play the ISO file?

Thanks!
