Previewing in printing to tape

Apparently, V5 doesn't want me to do a preview on device in print to tape mode.

I have a rendered DV file that I have added to the list on the right in V5's capture program. Then I click "Preview on Device" and instead of activating the attached video camera (firewired Canon ZR50MC), it opens a black window in the upper left corner of the computer monitor. Then, when I hit play, it only plays on the monitor and not to the camera.

Leaving the camera on, I close the V5 capture program and open V4's capture program and repeat the same process above except this time, it does like it always had, it previews on the camera!

Any ideas? I have XP SP2 and V5b.

Sounds too spooky to me. I would turn the computer off and step away!

Seriously though... that is one strange situation. Although I have nothing helpful to say I am very interested to hear what the solution may be!

I dont know about Print to Tape mode preview, but basicaly you are trying to preview your movie on you camcorder right? To do that, its very easy. Just connect your camcorder to pc and hit the play button on the Vegas window. You dont have to render to do this. You can preview any time while editing your project.

That's not what he is trying to do... he is using the "preview on device" feature of the vidcap program. It works for V4 but not for V5 (in his setup). This is not related (in any way) to the preview feature from the vegas timeline.

Not to worry... and no need to apologize. We all learn (at least I do) from every post that is made to this forum.

Yes, it's very odd. Once I'm done with this wedding project, I'm going to re-format and do a clean install. It's been a while so maybe something is corrupt in V5 vidcap. I'm just glad that V4 still works for me to do this.

I was having a similar problem (not sure its exactly the same) with previewing print to tape.

I opened the preferences and turned off device control. It would then work as expected. I determined that Vegas thought it should get the camera ready to record and only preview what was actually recording.
