Previewing stills from Media Manager

Hello,

I was working with a client this morning trying to tag a large number of photos that each belonged to 1 of 3 different movies (tags). Tags are a great way to do this, but there was one annoying issue.

Each time i selected an image in the media manager, it would preview for us to decide on what tag to assign to it for only a few seconds, but then the preview window would default back to some other image (always the same photo).

Is there a way for the preview window to only display the selected image? And for as long as its selected?

I agree, yes, oh yes, . .

Well what it is going back to, to display - for me anyway - is that which "happens" to be under the cursor at that time.

Now the other bit is that you CAN choose to "Explore Containing Folder". But this gets you out of MM and into an MS Menu of your stills. But NOW you would think you could drag those stills to your tag. Well I can't make it work. You have a go. But anyway this is a combersome way to Review Stills and thennce Drag n Plop into a Tag.

You get to Explore Folder by right click within MM on that Media.

Anybody knows how to easily do this? Tell us please?

Is there a way for the preview window to only display the selected image? And for as long as its selected?

I only have the explore folder option at present.

Thank you for the reply Grazie, I'll try using the file explorer. But, if you cant assign tags directly to the files in the file explorer we still have a problem.

--just checked, nope. No way to assign tags to files in the explorer...plus, stills only preview for a few seconds anyway.

While we're at it, is there a way to preview images with the preview window from the project bins? The thumbs are too small and draging them all to the timeline to preview is simply inefficent.

Yes it is. However, if you "Open In Trimmer" they get treated as Video and can be previewed for longer. Certainly not ideal, and therefore becomes even more a feature request - again!!!

Why we can't examine stills in the same way as we do video beats me . . .

Options -> Preferences -> Editing tab -> New still image length

The setting is primarily for the default length of still images added to the timeline, but it also determines their preview length.

This may not be what you are looking for but in the options under editing, if you crank up the new still image length it seems to stay on screen longer in the preview too. Obviously you would need to dial it back down when you add images to the timeline or they will be at the longer amount specified.

Did you click the Auto Preview button above the bin (icon of an arrow and green triangle)?

The length of time the still is displayed is directly linked to the "new still image length tha you set in the preferences under the editing tab.
So if you set it at 15 sec it will preview for 15 seconds.
the only caveat is ,thats the size it will be on your timeline when you place the still there. (kind of a pain if you only want them there for 3-5 seconds etc...)
