Previously Captured Videos: Has sound but no picture...

Once again, I need help.

I previously captured video using the VV2 capturing device. I can play these clips in all my media players and can open them in previously started projects saved in VV2 format, but opened with VV4. They are captured as 720x480 29fps AVIs...

When I add these files to a new VV4 project, I see and hear the sound track, but the video track is completely black. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Wes

hmmm...strangely...I can see them when I open VV4 and add media, but if I use "new" project and add a clip, I can't see anything. This now applies to freshly rendered video as well...

could it be my project setting? I can detect no difference in the setting...a bug?

I'm guessing, but if I understand your prob correctly, you can either view or not view video clips on the Vegas 4 timeline, depending on how you import the clips?

If that is the case, you might want to look at what codec windows &/or Vegas uses to decode that video. Vegas might be able to decode it perfectly well, but for whatever reason it tries sometimes to use another decoder or doesn't know to use it's own.

Might be easiest to try to uninstall Vegas 4 and reinstall. Depending on your OS, might be able to reset it in the win.ini or system.ini files, within the registry, or perhaps using the file association dialog from windows explorer. There's also a code at the beginning of each avi file that tells windows software what type of avi file it is, and there's software at places like digital-digest.com to change this header info -> might help but would have to be applied to each avi file.
