Print to DV Tape causing choppiness & drops at video overlays

Hello All!
I ams still trying to make that $%^&*() slide show. (Project is LATE.)

Anyway...

I need video overlays in the slide show. After rendering as an avi (What images I can see look GREAT!) I tried to print to tape.

The external display monitor shows choppy video and dropped frames whenever it gets to the overlay.
Most of the previous posts on the subject suggest to just drop whatever seems to cause the problem. But I NEED to have the overlays as a fundamental part of the video purpose.

Slide show is a little less than 4 gigs.

vv3.0
800 Athalon
512 mgb RAM
30 gigs operating sys etc. (Windows ME)
40 gigs video rendering/image files
dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge
SVHS VCR

Thanks to all wo have been answering my novice questions so far!
Jackie

so you are rendering out an NTSC DV AVI file and then you are trying to print your rendered video file to tape... and you are getting choppy results... but only at the video overlay parts...?

the first thing that pops into mind is hard drive speed... have you made sure that your hard drive is up to the task? it should be at least ATA-66 and it should be running in DMA mode (NOT PIO).

the next thing i'd check is the DV device. i don't know anything about the Dazzle hardware, but it could be the problem if it's not the hard drive being too slow.

Alright I give up!

Choppy video, funky audio, dropped frames, blue screens...
Good Nite Irene!

I now have two, count 'em, two versions of crappy Dazzle Bridges. I just sucked it up and ordered Sony DVMC. But I have to tell you, I hope this thing works **Magic cause I am going to lose my marbles.

Thanks for all of your help so far...

Are you trying to print from the Vegas timeline or from Video Capture?
