Print to DV Tape suddenly stopped working

Anyone have any idea why Print to DV Tape would stop working?

I've got a simple 1 hour project with the stock fades and titles... nothing fancy. Rendered it overnight and dumped 2 copies to tape going *through* my Digital8 camera to a VHS deck (one the other night, one tonight) using the Manual (no device control) option. No problems.

However, after the dump tonight, I went to make another copy, and VV seems to get "stuck." The system pre-renders something for about 2-4 minutes, I get to the "countdown" window, and I press Start. This project is pretty default at the beginning (some black, some bars, some black, then the program). When I get to the point where I should be seeing program playback, the default color bars remain on screen and never go away. I just see bars, with no audio, for as long as I let it run.

I've rebooted a few times, checked for fragmentation, and run the built-in XP drive check diagnostics. No change.

I'm running WinXP with an Athlon XP 1500 and 768 MB RAM, an IDE drive and a few SCSI drives, with a Matrox G400 card. Haven't had any issues with this gear to date.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this one (especially since I can't pin it down to some new software or hardware that's been added...).

Thanks,

James

Version number / build number (3.0,3.0a,3.0b)?

Any changes to the project between when it worked and when it didn't?

Please make sure you have no unnamed markers or regions, there's a problem we're working on with the Wav64 rendering if you have any unnamed markers or regions. After saving your project, try right-clicking between markers, and selecting "Markers/Regions > Delete All" and then try your print-to-tape.

You mentioned the first prints were without device control. Is this one (the one that's not working) using device control? Does it work if you turn device control off?

Same problem except win2k and I had to delete and reinstall VV due to Sonic support suggesting that due to an error when converting to mpg files. (Part of that issue was seemingly corrected but now VV generates errors when importing that mpg file to the timeline)I have uninstalled several times even deleting the 1394 driver and reinstalling.
The video capture print to tape option works except some occassional stutters when playing back through Canon XL-1 to vcr.
From the monitor window "Preview on External Monitor" does one not get the audio feed out through the firewire? I looked to that as a possible way to record from the timeline.
I too am stuck, any assist would be greatly appreciated.
VV is a great product compared to other NLE and I know an answer is out there. Or in there, inside my computer.
Thanks Tim

Hi Dennis, thanks for your questions. Here's what I can tell you (I'll have to get back with the answers to a few of these).

1. Version number / build number (3.0,3.0a,3.0b)?
> 3.0a Build 107

2. Any changes to the project between when it worked and when it didn't?
> No. None.

3. Please make sure you have no unnamed markers or regions, there's a problem we're working on with the Wav64 rendering if you have any unnamed markers or regions. After saving your project, try right-clicking between markers, and selecting "Markers/Regions > Delete All" and then try your print-to-tape.
> There *is* one unnamed marker in the project. I'll try removing it and let you know.

4. You mentioned the first prints were without device control. Is this one (the one that's not working) using device control? Does it work if you turn device control off?
> No, although device control was active, this was simply going to be a second copy going through the D8 to the VHS deck, so no device control change was made. I'll try turning device control off and see, if the unnamed marker was not causing it.
