Try using manual device control, so you hit the record button when it's actually ready to go.

Thanks, but I tried that. I aslo should have said that when it ouputs the video, the camcorder doesn't display it properly, it breaks up like the playback - mostly "blue" with occasional bursts of sound and vision.

I think I had a similar problem when the format was wrong (NTSC instead of PAL or 30fps instead of 25) but I've checked and double checked.

There's 2 ways to print to tape. If you're having trouble printing from the timeline, you might want to try using the capture application to print your video to tape. There's a section on it in the manual, page 245 (Printing with Video Capture).

You have to render the video first, then open the rendered file in the capture application and print it to tape. Works well...

1. Check the firewire cable connections
2. Swap out the firewire cable
3. Could be a corrupted .VEG file. Select all events and copy them into a new, blank project. Try printing to tape from the the new VEG file.
4. What kind of firewire card are you using? Check the driver under Windows Device Manager. If it says "VIA OHCI IEEE-2394" or "Texas Instruments IEEE-1394," try forcing Windows to use the Microsoft OHCI driver (it says simply "OHCI-compliant IEEE-1394 controller")

Hope this helps.

What version of Vegas are you using, and what version of Windows? I have also had problems printing to tape with Vegas. It is one of the few poorly implemented features. However, if you have the latest version of Vegas (4.0c) and an NT version of Windows (2000 or XP) I think you should be able to get it to work.
