Print to tape issue w/ DSR-11

jkrepner wrote on 5/30/2005, 9:52 AM
When I tried to print to tape this morning I had to manually hit record on the deck, Vegas doesn't want to control my DSR-11 during PTT.

Xp Pro, SP1, under device manager>Imaging Devices> I can see "Sony DV Tape Record Player" is connected and it says that it is operating correctly.

In fact, I can capture with device control in Vegas, just can't print to tape with device control.

It worked before I reinstalled XP Pro, and Vegas 6.0b the other day.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Jeff

I know there are a few of us DSR-11 users here. Are you guys/gals getting device control when printing to tape?

Thanks.

I have trouble using PTT from the timeline. It does read the timecode from the deck, but in the last dialogue window that lets you choose from manual, crash and timecode printing, EVERY option is greyed out.. and I cannot click 'finish'..

Is that what you mean by device control when ptt?

Basically, yes. The first option is NOT greyed out, but the next two are greyed out. I must manually hit record on the deck, rather then having Vegas control it.

You might have some other issues. Do you have Windows XP?

You might want to go into the control panel, and look under imaging devices to see if your system recogonizes your DV camera/deck.

I can get device control with my TRV-900 miniDV camera, just not with the DSR-11 during PTT.

Is there any Vegas 6.0b & DSR-11 users getting device control on print to tape? If so, did you already have 5 installed on the machine you upgraded to 6 on?

Is it possible that had I installed Vegas 5 first (which had DSR-11 deck control) then installed Vegas 6 that the settings would copy over from V5 to V6?

Thanks!

Same problem for me. I cannot PTT from the timeline with my DSR-11. I can see "Sony DV Tape Record Player" connected under "Imaging Devices", but it never worked. I did a fresh installation of XP Pro, SP1 and 6.0b (with 6.0a i had the same problem) but nothing changed. I tried to install Vegas 4 and everything works fine, so i think it's a Vegas 6.0 problem. I really don't know what to do, i can only join you in thanking in advance for any advice.

I would recommend openig a trouble ticket with Sony. Perhaps if a few of us have problems they'll try and fix it for the next release.

I can't see why Vegas 4 and 5 would work with the DSR-11, but Vegas 6 doesn't. Makes no sense.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm having the same issue with the Sony WV-DR7 (Full size DV deck with S-VHS) from Japan.

Never had a problem using V3, V4, V5, Scenalyzer, Premiere, and Canopus.

I've opened a trouble ticket with Sony. Here is their answer. It didn't work for me but maybe it's good for you.

Thanks for writing. I sincerely apologize for the lengthy response time. Due to the volume caused by our Sound Forge 8.0 and Vegas 6.0 product launches we have fallen a bit behind on service requests. We have been working diligently to answer as many emails as possible in the order that they were received. I hope you understand and sincerely appreciate your patience. Couple of things to try. First would be find what is running in the background. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del at the same time and you will see a list of the programs currently running (some users will have to hit the "Task Manager" button). Move over to the Processes Tab and click the "Image Name" heading at the top left of this window , you would be able to view these items by alphabetical order by user/system. Once all these items
are arranged, look under the User Name column for items that are listed as belonging to your User Account. You would only need to leave running the following;

explorer.exe
taskmgr.exe
Under the User Name "SYSTEM"
System Idle Process
System
smss.exe
csrss.exe
winlogon.exe
services.exe
lsass.exe
svchost.exe
spoolsv.exe

You may have other Users logged into the system and displayed on this list, but make sure you log them off and close down on their processes as well.
How long has it been since you have ran Scan Disk on your hard drive? Try running a Thorough Scan Disk, followed by Disk Defragment to see if you have any drive errors. These tools can be found in Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

Do you have any Anti-Virus Software on your computer? Make sure you update this software from the manufacturer, then run a full system scan. If you do not have any Anti Virus Protection, it is suggested to either purchase or download a copy and install it onto your system as a preventive maintenance

When was the last time you had updated your Computer's Drivers from the Manufacturer's Web Site? You would be able search for any newer, updated Motherboard, Sound Card, and Video Card drivers. Also check for any Peripherals that would be installed (i.e. Printers, Scanners, Card Readers). If you have an outdated or improper driver loaded, you may not be using that device correctly and it could potentially be causing problems.

Disconnect all USB and firewire devices from the system, along with all dongles.

Check for shared IRQs, go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information. Click on the plus next to Hardware Resources, then click on Conflicts/Sharing. While you may see "place holders" sharing numbers with real devices, you do not want your sound card, video card or capture card (listed as OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394) sharing an IRQ with another card. If you find that this is the case, you will need to try moving the card to various PCI slots to change the bus assignment. If you know how to change IRQ settings in the BIOS, you might try this as well.

Finally, Once you have exited out of all extra programs (CTRL+ALT+DEL), try running the program again. If no luck, Un-Install the software from the Add/Remove Programs, then Re-Install from the latest update available here:

Mic, thanks for posting that... sorry it didn't work for you. I'll try it when I get home this evening, but I doubt that will work for me either.

I get device control during capture just not PTT. So it, device control, does works so I doubt it's an IRQ conflict or some other hardware related issue (if it was, then it wouldn't work during capture). I'm on a fresh install of XP (SP1), Vegas, and all the drivers are brand new... oh, AND IT WORKS WITH VEGAS 5 on the same dang-gone machine and Vegas 6 works with my TRV-900, just not my DSR-11!!!

Thanks again!

Jeff

(p.s. I'll open a new ticket with Sony, they haven't replied back to me since I opened my first one last week)

Kurtz wrote on 6/7/2005, 11:33 AM
I agree with you. PTT works with Vegas 4 and 5 on the same machine and i doubt it could be an IRQ conflict, driver problem or some other hardware related issue...And in Video Capture mode everything works fine!
However, I remember that with Vegas 6.0a PTT from the timeline options where ALL greyed if a tape was inserted in my DSR-11 (and i could'nt go on printing to tape), while when it was empty at least "Manual Control" was selectable. That was really strange and in fact with the last update (6.0b) everything is inverted: i can select "Manual Control" only if a tape is inserted into the deck, otherwise every option is greyed.
Well, I sincerely hope your new ticket with Sony can help us since I've tried everything other users suggested in this forum in other threads too.
Thanks

Agreed.

I just want the Vegas Team to aknowledge the problem for fixing in a future (soon) release. I can live with manually hiting record for now.

I have the same problem as described when printing to camcorder (sony dig8 and panasonic 400) with VV6.
At first i used VV5 instead but now i have same problem there to
(due to VV6??)
Now I must use my old VV4 to get my works to tape.
I´m not satisfied with VV6 at all - it chrashes a lot and I regret my upgrade.

I have the same 'greyed out' issue at the end of PTT dialog.
My DVX100A is monitoring preview via firewire without issue prior to this. PTT fromm vidcap works as it should.
Kurtz wrote on 6/8/2005, 5:16 AM
Of course, I can use "manually record" for now but in some particular situations it's really a problem: if i only need to change a still image during a clip, it's almost impossible to achieve acceptable results manually, while using "crash record" i could easily select the "video slot" I needed to change (in Vegas 4 and 5 of course). Now I have to re-render and re-print to tape everything. I know this can be considered a sort of "professional" use of Vegas, but i thought it was a professional software. Am I wrong? Any clue from Sony?

To me it seems like that helpdesk email you got is a standard email.

But I think this is really a buggy thing.. I'll just PTT from V4 for now, waiting for the upgrade that fixes it. Too many people with the exact same problems in version 6, can't just be my pc.

And with the exact same probs I mean:
* Device control = OK in Vidcap
* Last dialogue box everything greyed out except manual recording
* works ok in other versions..

We don't doubt some of you are having issues, and we'd like your help in tracking this down. For people encountering DV device problems, please list:

1) your OS version #

2) Your DV device

3) The versions of Vegas you have installed. Note: new versions of Vegas DO NOT break capture or print to tape in other versions- nothing related to DV i/o is overwritten.

4) And lastly, how are DV capture & PTT working in all versions.

So on my system (true results, I'm doing this right now)

1) OS version #: Win XP SP1

2) Sony PDX10 (NTSC) camera

3) Installed versions:
Vegas 4.0e
Vegas 5.0d
Vegas 6.0b

4) Functionality test:

Vegas 4.0e: Capture ok. Print to tape in both modes, ok
Vegas 5.0d: Capture ok. Print to tape in both modes, ok
Vegas 6.0b: Capture ok. Print to tape in both modes, ok

Important: Especially in the case where your Windows OS has been updated recently (or auto-updated), don't assume that DV in Vegas version XYZ still works just because it used to. There are many reports all over the web of OS updates "sometimes" screwing up 1394 device connectivity ergo we ask for your testing help in getting this worked out.
jkrepner wrote on 6/8/2005, 7:26 AM
1) OS Version #:
Win XP Pro SP1

2) DV Devices:
Sony DSR-11 DVCAM deck (NTSC)
Sony TRV-900 Mini DV cam (NTSC)

3) Vegas Version:
Vegas 6.0b (only)
Vegas 5 (never installed since reinstalling OS)

4) Functionality test:
Vegas 6b with DSR-11: captures ok - Print to tape in both modes NO
Vegas 6b with TRV-900: captures ok - Print to tape in both modes YES
Prior installed Vegas 5: captures ok - Print to tape YES (with both devices)

Please note: with the trv-900 device I can PTT in both modes just fine. So I suspect that my system is okay since I can control one device during PTT but not the other.

Also note: I have not installed any prior versions of Vegas on this machine since I reinstalled the OS a couple of weeks ago. But this same machine did work with Vegas 5 prior to reinstalling the OS.

Thanks in advance for taking a look into this.

1) OS Version #:
Win XP Pro SP1

2) DV Devices
Sony DSR-11 PAL

3) Vegas Version"
4e --> works fine from timeline and capturing and PTT Vidcap and previewing
6b --> works only PTT Vidcap and Capture (including device control) and previewing, so everything BUT PTT from timeline..

No Windows changes, also not automatic since there's no internet connection with the workhorse ;)

Screwing up connectivity means no connection at all or strange behaviour like for us? It could be interesting to know "working" drivers versions or correction patch that worked for other people to solve DV Device Control problems if there is any.

I really thank you and the others in advance for taking a look into this.

1. OS: WInXP Pro
2. Device: Sony TRV-900
3. Versions 4 and 6 of Vegas installed
4. Version 4: DV capture and Print To Tape both work fine in version 4. I have device control for both.
Version 6 DV Control: Works fine with device control.
Version 6 PTT: Print To Tape does the following...on the first attempt, I can choose between Manual and Crash. The third option is greyed out. If I choose "Crash," the camera will start recording after it finishes pre-rendering, but it only records black...no sound or video. This happens everytime I choose "Crash." If I try "Manual" on the first attempt, it never gives me the countdown. On the second attempt, I can choose "Manual" and it works.

My Vegas computer is not connected to the internet.

1) your OS version # XP PRO SP2

2) Your DV device I have 3 that I have tried: All three are JVC mini DV cameras" dvl 120u, dvl 820u, and a jy vs200.

3) The versions of Vegas you have installed. 6.0a and 5.0d

4) And lastly, how are DV capture & PTT working in all versions. I have no problems in 5.0d but everything is greyed out on the last page of the wizard for print to tape on version 6.0a. I understand that I do not have 6.0b but I will give it a try even though the thread still shows this is a problem. As for capture in 6.0a, I have had no problems.
