print to tape question

Hello, can you tell me what is better - to print from the timeline or using the print to tape in the video capture program? I tried printing an avi file from vidcap but it keeps telling me that the file cannot be opened. Rendering from the timeline is going to take over an hour! If it's done from vidcap does this eliminate the need to re-render since I already rendered it and don't want to have to do it again?

VidCap can only print-to-tape DV encoded AVI files. If you rendered your project to any other format, even to the extent of changing any custom parameters in the default DV template, then print-to-tape can't use it.

You can either spend the 1.5 hours waiting for printing from the timeline to render the file first, or you can spend the 1.5 hours rendering to a DV AVI file first for VidCap to use. Take your pick. I like printing from the timeline because it adds the colorbars and the extra blank spaces at the beginning and end. I like printing with VidCap because i can just create a finished output file once and then reuse it as often as need be. Take your pick ;)
