Print to Tape: Render files directory?

JasonMurray wrote on 6/6/2004, 5:39 PM
Hiyas,

I'm running almost to capacity on my C: drive (where Vegas is installed) but I have set Vegas' temp directory to E:\vegastemp\ in Preferences.

When I did a Print to Tape on the weekend, Vegas continued to use a directory on C: to automatically render the video prior to writing it to tape, seemingly ignoring my temp directory setting. As result, I ran out of space on C: and had to clear some files quick smart.

Anyone encountered this? Is there a separate directory I need to set for this function's temp dir, and if so does anyone know why? :)

Thanks

Jason

You set the temp directory in File/Properties of the Vegas project. Generally, you want this to default to a drive other than C for optimum speed.

Yes ... my temp dir is E:\vegatemp already.

Thats why I can't understand why it's writing to C by C drive when I print to tape...

You may have missed Spot's point. If you pull down Options --> Preferences and change the directory for your Temporary Files, the directory for Pre-rendered files does not change. In order to change this setting, you need to pull down the FILE menu, then, go to Properties. At the bottom of that dialog box is the place where you can change the folder for Pre-rendered files.

Try that and see if it doesn't fix your problem.

I encountered disk full messages and went through the same process as you - finally came here and asked the same question - this is a great forum.

Let us know if this fixes you up.

Vegas ALWAYS changes my settings back to c when I open a project.
Also happended with Vegas 4. I have to make sure and check all preference and property settings before rendering or printing to tape every time. It also is constantly changing to time and frames from drop frame setting. These things drive me crazy. I have been wondering what the deal is on this since I got V4.

There is a check box that says something like "Open all Projects with these settings". Check that after you set your directories.
