Print to Tape Woes

First let me say that I believe my problems to be related to Windows 2000, or at least they've reared their heads since I installed Win2K.

I've been reading all the posts regarding print to tape and have searched the knowledge base for relevant articles, and I'm still not having much success printing to tape. I have an HP Pavillion with an 866 PIII, approx 400 meg Ram, 40 Gig system drive, 40 Gig internal and 80 Gig external (firewire) video drives. All drives are formatted NTSF.

Originally my o/s was Windows ME, but I've upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional, to allow me to seamlessly work on projects latger than 4 Gig. Funny thing is, under Windows ME, I had no trouble other than the file size limit. The SF video capture utility worked almost flawlessly ( I occasionally lost audio during capture, but on subsequent tries, was able to capture video and audio with no trouble. Since Win2k was installed, during print to tape, the data stream will just stop, always in a different time in my project. The vicap window indicates that I'm still printing to tape, and the DV device is still recording, but recording a blue screen. Pretty, but not too exciting.

After reading the posts regarding vidcap 2.5 bundles with the Video Factory Demo, I tried it. At first the program recognized my DV device and I was able to capture with no problem. However while attempting to print to tape, I was experiencing audio dropouts, and eventually I suffered the same fate as with version 2.0, in that I would be recording a blue screen.

I'm an audio professional of 30 years and have welcomed with open arms the world of digital audio. But I must admit to feeling a bit like a fish out of water so far with video. I love the features of Vegas Video, and have had no trouble learning to use it, since it works so much like the audio editors I'm used to working with, but I could use a little help getting print to tape working correctly.

Thank you in advance for any help.
