Print to Video Tape glitches

I'm having trouble printing to a Sony GV D1000 video recorder using OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394/DV

I get audio/video glitches every 5 minutes or so that last for about 1/4 second (sounds like CD skipping). The glitch points are different for each attempt, so it's not the rendered files.

I stopped all services and applications that appeared unnecessary before beginning.

Task manager consistently shows Vegas 6.0 between 45-55% CPU time, and System Idle Process between 40-50%.

The weird thing is, that at the moment of the glitches, System Idle Process jumps to ~75% while Vegas drops to <25%

I thought another process was taking charge for a moment, but I can't see anything jumping up in the CPU% other than System Idle...

Intel P4 3.0GHz, 1GB RAM, SATA 7200RPM 250GB hard drive.

Does this actually end up on the tape?
How are you monitoring the audio?
Bob.

Yes, it does end up on the tape.

This little unit is kind of a DV Walkman. Has a 4" LCD and stereo speakers built in.

I can hear (and see) the glitches occur during recording, as well as playback.

I would suspect background processes. I have visited web sites that explain how to tweak XP for a DAW. It has made everything run very smoothly.

Suggest that you get Startup Monitor a fee program from PC World's archive or you can do a search on the internet for it . The author is Mike Lin and it is an awesome program and works beautifully to show you what programs are actually running in the background as determined by the registry. Simply install and go to the control panel and find listing called "Startup" and double click it. What is actually running in the various registry tabs is shown and do not worry about stopping critcal programs. XP will not allow you to make changes to the operating system...you will not crash your system, do not worry. I have used this program for over two years to monitor exactly what you need to check to potentially solve your problem
