Print Video to Sony VX2000

videomaniac wrote on 10/16/2004, 11:31 AM
I am having trouble Printing Video to this camera. It captures video perfectly so I do not believe it is a 1394 issue. When I try to Print to Video all I get is a white screen and some black digital squares. I do hear audio. This bad screen also displays before I even begin the priniting to video process. I other words, I see the white screen before I even begin recording so I do not believe it is a data transfer issue either. What would the configuration be since there are so many output options? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

KK

Have you tried previewing to the camera?

In case it helps... I have a VX2000 and it works fine for both preview and PTT.

I also have one and never had a problem. Did you put the camera into VCR mode?

Yes the camera is in VCR mode. Again, I get no images just digital distortion with a white screen BEFORE the deck even begins to roll. I have even tried rolling back the MSDV.dll from SP1 with no success.

I have hooked a monitor to my video out on the camera and I get nothing. Why can I capture from this camera but cannot Print to DV?

Do you have the camera VCR SET menu in A/V>DV OUT OFF? (may not make a difference but worth trying)

Is the white screen with black squares on the camcorder screen or on the Vegas window?

In the Options > Preferences > Print to Tape tab, what are the settings? Mine are at Record setup delay = 4 and record engage delay = 7 which I believe ar the defaults.

The white appears on the VX2000 monitor. Whne played back it is black with the video flashing in the little squares. Something is not synced correctly. A/V OUT is On. I have no problem capturing just going the other way. I do not have a Print To Tape tab that I can find (5.0) but I do not think pre roll is a factor since I see the bad image before the deck even rolls.

Here is what the screen looks like when I capture it. During the print-to-tape it appears all white with the black squares. Could this be an XP SP2 issue? I rolled back SP1 MSDV.sys but it has not helped.

Sorry,
The link to the screen shot you posted does not work for me.

I forgot to specify that you need to be in the File>Capture Video function first. Then Options > Preferences > Print to Tape to review the settings.

DV Device Control should be enabled as well (Preferences)

With some NLE's, A/V>DV OUT needs to be OFF (in Sony logic, that means the camcorder is configured to accept an incoming DV data stream.)
My VX2000 does not seem to care when used with Vegas, but you may want to try setting it to OFF. You may also want to see if that allows you to see your video on an external monitor while trying to print to tape.

I assume that you also have "Preview on an External Monitor" enabled when you are just trying to monitor the video from the main Vegas 5 screen...

Okay all of those settings are correct. I have tried DV OFF and ON on the VX2000.

Videomaniac,
I'm sorry to say that I've run out of ideas. Perhaps you should post to dvinfonet.com on their VX2000/2100 forum or on Dv.com camera forum.

One other thought - have you tried the reset button on the VX2000?

I have question, are you trying this from Vegas Video or from the capture program that comes with Vegas.

Hmmm...not sure what the difference is. I am in Vegas when I select Print to DV.

Reseting did not affect it. Thanks for the idea though.

My experience:

There are two ways to print to tape from Vegas. One is from within Vegas itself, which you indicate you're using. The other is from within the Vegas capture utility. I've had success with one when I couldn't get clean output from the other.

Also, I have found that if the hard drive is badly fragmented the problem you describe can occur. Try defragging the drive.

Good luck.

What is the executable for the stand alone "print to DV"?
