I wish to print my completed project directly to VHS without first printing to DV... I have this device that came with Dell computer that has audio/video in out ports plus Svideo in and out, this device is connected to the firewire card via something that looks like a serial cable. anyone have any ideas? Your help would be greatly appreciated and man do I need help :)

Is this device actually connected to a firewire port?
Can you be a bit more specific about what it is, maybe there was some documentation with it!

I'd iamgine it's a video A/D converter. If its a failry standard one then VV will see it and you can use it to PTT so long as you turn off Device Control.

Theoretically you should be able to use that device to print to VHS exactly the same way you currently print to DV tape. If you're using the VidCap utility you'll want to go into Options and disable DV device control. If you're printing from the timeline then you'll want to specify manual device control. In either case, you'll manually start the VCR recording and then start the PTT process.

The one red flag that sticks out is the word "Dell". This company has a very bad history of providing proprietary hardware that only works with the software they supply. Give it a try though. It won't hurt anything to try and if it does work then all is well.
