Pro 12 Suite upgrade price

David Johns wrote on 11/20/2012, 11:14 AM
Am I alone in thinking the upgrade price from Vegas Pro (prior to 12) to the suite is an astonishingly untempting deal?

Standalone price for VP12 Suite is £580 plus VAT.
Upgrade price to Suite from earlier versions of VP is £496 plus VAT.

So a saving of £85. Big deal.

Sticking with 10e which works reliably...

Dave, I had the same question. Since I already own Vegas 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Production Assistant 2.0 and the new DVD Architect Pro 6, why on earth would I pay over $500 for the Vegas Pro Suite which would only add Hit Film?

I am just guessing here, but I think Sony is in the midst of creating a package for legacy Vegas users who already upgraded to Vegas 12 - but I could be wrong!

Yes, I have the same issue.

I have Vegas Pro 12 Pro, Production Asst. 2.0, Sound Forge Pro, and the latest DVD Architect as well.

The only thing I would be gaining would be the HitFilm Ultimate and 100 royalty-free soundtracks.

Sorry, Sony...not upgrading.

Sony, what about offering a simple Hit Film discount? Like a 20-30% off Hit Film if you're a Vegas 12 Pro owner?

I save money simply purchasing Hit Film directly instead of Vegas 12 suite, which is a bit of a disappointment.

On the flip side, Vegas continues to lead the NLE market in my opinion. I have created hundreds of films with Vegas and have tried most of the other NLE's including FCPX, and still enjoy Vegas.

Sony did that with Titler Pro 2 which is 3rd party too so let's hope they do it with Hitfilm 2 eventually.

I already have an audio editor and Ultimate S Pro so the £450 upgrade for me as a VP 12 owner is not worthwhile. I think the Suite works for those who don't own any Sony products and want to get into video editing with one package.

I'm not so sure they are trying to attract previous version owners. This upgrade page here says Upgrade to Vegas Pro 12 Suite from Vegas Pro 12, $442.46. Compare that to HitFilm Ultimate 2 at $399.00. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/upgrade/vegasprosuite

Aside from HitFilm Ultimate 2, I can't see any additions to the Suite that you don't already get with regular Vegas Pro 12. It seems like Sony didn't really strike any kind of deal with FXhome Ltd. and they are simply paying FXhome their 399 and marking it up a little for themselves.

I'm with drewU2, it would have been nice if Sony had worked out a discounted introductory price of $349.00 or thereabouts for a few months rather than what amounts to the exact opposite. But of course as an end user I'm in favor of anything that is going to save me a little more money than normal pricing.

Caveat emptor.
It's not even a "suite", there is no certainty that the vendors of HitFilm will continue to support the product or its integration with Vegas nor that SCS will continue to do the same either.
I'd also wager good money that if there is some problem with the integration of the two products it'll quickly descend into a finger pointing exercise.

On the upside HitFilm appears to also be a reasonable NLE by itself, probably good enough for the needs of many Vegas users.

Bob.

I've tried the Hitfilm 2 demo and it appears to work with VP 12 but I didn't really explore the possibilities that much. I did have a crash where I got a message that the Hitfilm/Vegas link had stopped working. I assume this would mean closing Vegas to re-establish the link. It seems too early to tell how well the integration works or whether Sony/FXHome are in this for the long haul.

The on sale price of HF2U includes a bunch of extras at the moment. SCS have got their fingers burned or are trying to burn ours. They should have priced the upgrade to the suite in the mid two hundred dollars as an intro to the “suite concept”. It seems to me that SCS could bring some good bargaining chips to the table in terms of brand power and exposure for hitfilm but their negotiating team must have had an off day. In a suite you expect interoperable functions similar to Adobe GFX apps. You can’t drag a sound track from V12 to Sound Forge this sort of function would warrant the use of the word suite. As it is – it is a bundle.
The other concern which has been mentioned before is will hitfilm 3 be in V13 or is this a once off?
Spectralis wrote on 11/21/2012, 12:13 PM
It is possible to open VP audio tracks in an audio editor including SF so there is some integration but drag and drop would be useful. Sony and NewBlueFX have kept working together with Titler Pro and more developers are porting their plugins to Vegas so I'm hopeful that the Sony/FXHome collaboration will last (at least for a few versions.)

A big negative for me is that the Hitfilm 2 demo doesn't allow saving in VP 12 which makes it useless for testing in Vegas. The demo can only save to YouTube. Time limited saving in Vegas would have at least allowed us to test the stability of the integration. The Suite release seems not very well thought out.

Even at the current 25% off the upgrade to the Suite I'm still not tempted. I want a Hitfilm 2 upgrade discount for VP 12 owners and a demo that allows us to test it in Vegas. I can't be more explicit than that!

Since the Vegas Suite upgrade price will be in effect until December 28th, I thought I would mention that if you don't have Sound Forge Pro 10 or Production Assistant the $442 upgrade price to Vegas Suite would be worth the money. Assuming you want Hitfilm Ultimate and Sound Forge/Production Assistant.

If you have all three (Vegas, Sound Forge, Production Assistant), then it's not such a great deal given that Hitfilm Ultimate is $399 directly from FXhome.

I overlooked those being in the suite earlier. Sony should put a list of bullet points of included apps at the top of the page. No where on the Vegas Suite page does it list them succinctly.

Vegas 12 Pro update: $142
Sound Forge Pro: $282
HitFilm: $399

Total: $823.

You can't buy their included music (yet?). So that's a steal for a $585 upgrade price.

Adobe offers ~the same % off on their bundled upgrades (but don't allow you to upgrade from older versions).

Could not agree more...I own all the other software already in the Vegas suite so Hitfilm 2 should be offered to us at a discount at least.....but I doubt its going to happen....

For the very reason that I didn't have:-
Soundforge 10
Production Assistant
CD Architect (but I'll probably never use);

and that I wanted Hitfilm Ultimate (tried the demo and instantly wanted over any NewBlue crap for titles, and 3D model import, and really really good compositing, grading etc., and the integration works very well);

DVDA6 wasn't a consideration;

I am one of the people that the upgrade to the suite was a no-brainer.
