Pro Pack extras missing

The Sony Vegas Platinum 9 Pro Pack is supposed to come with NewBlueFX transistions and effects, 360 soundtracks and 1,001 sound effects. I installed all the items on the disk and, although I can find the NewBlueFX installation folders, they don't show up in VMS9. I can't find any evidence whether the sound stuff was installed or not. The documentation here or on line has not been found. I feel clueless!

I have no idea about the NewBlueFX as i've never had them to install. Try exploring the installation disc and see if there's a folder for them. There might be a setup or install program in that folder.

The sound tracks and sound effects are stored in folders on the installation disc. Find them and copy them to your hard drive wherever you choose. There isn't really any installation process for them as they're just media files.

Really? I wonder why there are no instructions for doing all this?

Fortunately, I know my way around a file system and can find this stuff on my own. But what about the average user?

The NewBlueFX stuff got installed under C:\Program Files\NewBlue but there is no installer or instructions how to integrate with Vegas.

The bonus content is left on the source disk in a folder named Content. Under that are not only folders for 1,001 Sound FX and Music but also Borders, Illustrations and Title Cards. The quantity of extra content is fairly substantial but would likely be missed by the average user <unless........... I'm not an average user?!>

OK, the real problem here is that the NewBlueFX are simply not showing up in the list of effects along side the Sony effects or in another folder selectable from the Plug-In Chooser - Video Track Effects window. The NewBlue Cartooner effect is showing up - always did show up - I just didn't notice earlier.

I uninstalled and reinstalled NewBlueFX and it still doesn't show up in the effects chooser. Is there some way to tell Vegas that the NewBlue effects are available?

How did you install your NewBlueFX plug-ins? I installed mine from the Vegas MSP9PP installation splash screen. I've circled the link in red in the photo reference.

Yes, that is indeed how I installed the NewBlueFX effects and transitions. Twice!

Okay, this is weird.... I never actually used the NewBlueFX after I installed them last year. I did briefly check them out to see what they could do, but never used 'em in a video.

So, since you brought the question up, I just went to try them out, and... they're not there (except for Cartoonr, which is still there). They were there last year and now they're not.

Sometime (weeks or months) after I installed the NewBlueFX plugins, I installed the Mike Crash Vegas filters. I don't remember for certain whether the NewBlueFX plugins were still there afterward, but I think they probably were.

So, one of two things seem likely: either the installation of the Mike Crash Vegas filters undid the NewBlueFX plugins (but I doubt it), or maybe the NewBlueFX license expired (I thought it is supposed to be perpetual).

Did you install any other third-party filters besides the NewBlueFX ones?

Can anyone else here with Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack use the NewBlueFX video plugins today (besides Cartoonr) that came with Vegas?

My system: ASUS MB, Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz, 4 MB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4670
32 bit Windows 7, 2x500 GB Samsung HDD

I have no other Vegas video filters installed.

NewBlue Cartoonr for Vegas is installed under
C:\Program Files\NewBlue\Free Effects for Vegas

NewBlue VideoFX MSPP is installed under
C:\Program Files\NewBlue\VideoFX MSPP

I just went through RegEdit searching for NewBlue and it finds all the effects, listing for all them:
C:\Program Files\NewBlue\VideoFX MSPP\VegasHost.dll

It looks like the VegasHost.dll is not getting registered or registered properly. I wonder if the installer was updated to support the RTM version of Win7?

I tried registering the VegasHost.dll

Opened Command Prompt as Administrator and typed:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\NewBlue\VideoFX MSPP\VegasHost.dll"

System responded with success, however Vegas still does not see the NewBlue effects.

I'm running 32-bit Windows XP (with SP3 and up-to-date updates). I don't think it has anything to do with your hardware. I don't think it's a Windows issue, either, since it's happening on both my XP and your Win 7.

I'm thinking that maybe NewBlue has a specific license expiration date on these licensed video FX since they used to work on my computer, and I haven't reinstalled Vegas. (I mean, I installed Vegas only once, and it's still installed.)

I'd really like anybody else here with Platinum 9 Pro Pack to check if they can still find the NewBlue FX (besides Cartoonr). If nobody can find them now, that would strongly suggest it's a NewBlue licensing issue.

I feel silly for not realizing this, but... the NewBlue FX that come with Platinum 9 Pro Pack were where they've always been: under the Transitions tab, because they are transitions, not effects!
KenJ62 wrote on 4/29/2010, 10:27 AM
Apparently so. I found them there, too.

That's OK, David. Who knew Video FX were really transitions? <shrug>

And, I will keep my Sony distribution media handy in case I may want anything from the "Content" folder.
