Pro8.1 issues

As per my otyher thread I have just moved over to Pro 8.1 on W7 64bit and have been met with some problems.

Currently doing a test of a 16 sec and 5 frame segment at the start of my project. It's indicating that it will take around 17 minutes to mpeg2 default settings. It is an avi file previously rendered on my old system with no changes at all.

Also, while rendering the preview is black but no message at all. The final mpeg2 file was black! A search here has not been conclusive as to this issue.

I have an ASUS M2N78 MB with 4GB RAM, Phenom 940 Black and Sapphire 4850 512 Graphics card running W7 64bit.

The preview from the timeline was very choppy with many events just showing up as blank. I actually moved one even to the left slightly then back into place and it showed up in the preview pain.

Can anyone offer and potential solutions or advice, please?

Perhaps I should go back to 8.0c?

Perhaps I should go back to 8.0c?That would definitely be my recommendation.

8.1 was basically a free introductory beta for owners of 8.0x. It had huge problems, that were never fixed with a later 8.1x release. Instead, Sony went to 9.x. So, if you really think you need 64-bit (and for my work, despite having spent over $1,000 extra on my computer to enable this, I haven't yet seen anything that makes that investment worth a dime), then get 9.0b or 9.0c. I don't have either, because of the problems still being reported, but it appears that people can get real work done with both, albeit with some workarounds and prayers.

Installing 8.0c as I type.

Seems a shame to have a 64bit system and not make the most of it but I am not ready to upgrade to 9 as yet.

Thanks for the advice.
