Problem burning CD's from the timeline

I have a problem when I burn a CD from the timeline that I can only burn one successfully. If I say that I want to burn another I get silent tracks. All the track numbers are there but the audio is silent.

I've had this problem persistantly with multiple drives on 2 computers with Vegas 6, 8 and 9. I've never posted about it before but I have job that I need to make 14 disks and would prefer to do it with vegas.

Are you following the directions for "Burn Disc at Once"?

Normally all I have to do, is loop the area of the timeline, I'm going to make into a CD, and then burn it. When it's done, it will ask if you'd like to burn another.

It will usually pre-render to a temporary file and then make the CD's from that. It has always asked, when one disc is finished, if I'd like to burn (make) another. Until I say NO (and each disc has audio on it)

Maybe, you are not pre-rendering to another file first??? That should be the default.

Just to clarify, I can burn a cd using the disk at once method and it plays fine. I can do it if I render the file or do it in real time. The problem is that when it asks me "Do you want to burn another?" and I select YES the resulting CD has silence for all the tracks. It has the proper track count but no audio within.

If I shutdown and reopen vegas I can burn another CD just fine but still I'm unable to burn a second that has any audio. I've had this problem with V6,V8 and V9 (skipped 7). I have a new computer with an :LG BD burner but the two older machines used the same HP640 DVD burner. They all did the same thing, one disk and then the rest are silent.

I love how quickly I can layout a CD in Vegas but it sucks when I have to burn multiple disks.

I just tested this with Vegas Pro 9 and was able to create a simple project with 3 songs. I set up my CD Track Markers and used Tools > Burn Disc > Disc at Once option.

In Disc at Once... I used my Pioneer BD-RW drive, Buffer Underrun protection unchecked, Burn CD only (no testing), Render Temporary Image and Used existing Temporary image was checked.

This worked fine for me.

It sounds like your daotemp.dat (DiscAtOnceTEMP) file - which is stored in your temporary files folder when Vegas renders temporary image before burning is getting hosed somewhere along the way.

Try changing your default temporary files folder (Options > Preferences > General tab) to a different location (i.e., if you have a secondary internal drive, could set to D:\VegasTemp or some other folder).

Try also disabling antivirus applications or security software that may see this file as a threat and delete or quarantine it. (this article may help: How to troubleshoot configuration errors by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP

Hope that helps.

Thanks for testing. Did you burn a second CD when it asks if you'd like to make another? That's where I have the problem. Burn a single CD works every time, I just have to close and reopen vegas before I can burn another.

I will try what you suggested about using another folder.
