Problem! Can't Print to Tape!

Grrrr... I've done this almost a hundred times before!
Today it's not working, and I'm not sure why.
I've got a timeline I want to print to my DSR 1500. The Remote switch is On on the deck, I've gone into the Digitize tool to like up the tape to the area I want to start recording, I go into Print To Tape and as soon as I go there, Vegas stops sending iLink signal to the deck. So now PTT says there are no options to print out. Everything on Device Setup is grayed out.
Went into Prefs and Print Device and it's set to "OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394/DV" so that should be correct. Plus, I have deck control with the Capture tool, so I know Vegas CAN see the deck. And, when I'm not PTTing, I have pass-through, so I can see my timeline on my NTSC monitor.
What variable am I missing that is not letting PTT to send iLink signal to the deck?
Please help! I'm missing my deadline because I can't lay this spot to tape!
Very frustrating...
I'm using Vegas 6.0 d.
Thanks for any and all advice.

You probably already have a digital tape in your deck but just in case, here's something that always cures the problem for me when everything is greyed out. There are times when I use the PTT function to get the bars and tone in front of the full production going directly to VHS through my DV deck. Earlier versions of Vegas did this with no worries. V6 required a recordable tape be in the deck. I use the manual record function rather than the crash recording choice at that point so I don't actually record to the DV tape but my timeline goes out with the bars and tone and black intro and trailer.

Yeah, there is definitely a tape in the deck and it is a recordable tape (Not in Record Safe mode).
Dang... I was hoping for several "duh" ideas, like, "Matthew, did you hit the Obvious Button."
The tape in deck WOULD have been a Duh idea, but I got that one covered.
Thanks for the idea, though, Mike. I appreciate the thought.

External firewire drives can sometimes interrupt the print to tape. The Firewire patch sometimes fixes this:

Firewire 1394 SP1 Solutions

There is a different patch for SP2. I don't have the link for that.

Well shoot... I was still hoping for that obvious solution.
No... NO external drives of any nature.

Thanks though.

I have no reason for this suggestion, but have you tried disabling the Preview to external device?

Also, have you tried disconnecting the camera and rebooting just in case it is confused?

Didn't try disableing Preview. Might try that tomorrow.

But I accidentally found a work-around. Now I'm thinking it might be the deck's problem.... well, no... it's just not getting iLink signal once Vegas goes to PTT. Weird.
But when I pop out the tape while in PTT mode, my options become solid again - no longer greyed out. Then I can print to tape with no problems...

It's all very odd and frustrating.

Thanks Dave.

Dave,
I may be completely wrong but changes made to PTT on V6 does produce weird results.
I have never had any problems with my deck with V4 and V5. But since V6, PTT only works if there's tape in deck. It would not start prerender without tape.
Bit frustrating if the deck was used for pass-thro'

Yeah, right now, the PTT only works if I have a tape in the deck, go to PTT, pop the tape and re-insert it. Then I get the desired results.
It's odd.

So I was pretty on track about a tape in the deck after all? Thought I was losing my mind at first because as a previous poster said, never an issue with older versions of Vegas. Glad you got it going.
