Problem Capturing

My PC recently crashed and burned. Luckily I had all my projects backed up, so I didn't loose any info. However my PC's is in the shop so I installed Vegas on my laptop. I went out and bought a PMCIA Adaptec Firewire card so I capture video. When I click on Capture Video, I get the dialog box that says to capture the video. However, the tape plays but nothing captures. Is there a setting or something that is not turned on? Any help is appreciated.

Should I have installed the PCMIA card first and then the software or does that matter?

It doesn’t matter what order you install things in. Windows should acknowledge that you have plugged in a video device. If Windows doesn’t see it, Vegas won’t see it.

Make sure Windows acknowledges the firewire card. Then plug in the device and make sure Windows acknowledges that a device has been plugged in and is ready for use. Then start Vegas and it should see the device.

Windows does see the VTR. Before I begin to capture, I specify the capture folder. When I click on Capture tape, the tape plays. But the time code on the capture duration does not move, hence it's not capturing. Any ideas?

Sounds like either a bad cable or a bad cable connection. Maybe the connector on the PMCIA card.

Can you check the cable on another system?

Is this a DV deck or camera? If not, perhaps it doesn’t support device control. Did you try going into Options > Preferences and unchecking Enable DV device control?

I was able to solve the problem, all the settings were fine! I was using a Sony DSR 45 DV Deck. For some reason, when the tape was in the machine it would pause the tape by default. When I unpaused the deck and clicked on CAPTURE TAPE, it worked fine. Thanks to all that helped, much appreciated!!!!
