problem copying and pasting titles

I recently upgraded from Screenblast Movie Studio 3 to Vegas Movie Studio 4. I insert titles in home movies by adding a 8 or 10 second shaded background on the video timeline, and then adding a text overlay. So there are two segments on different tracks, one above the other. In 3.0 it worked fine to select the two (click on one; ctrl-click on the other), type ctrl-c to copy the pair, and then ctrl-v where I wanted to add a new title elsewhere on the timeline. In version 4 the ctrl-v doesn't reproduce the two segments on their respective tracks. I get one combined (and screwed up) segment. the 4.0a patch didn't correct this. Any suggestions? I've gone back to 3.0 for the time being.

A few of us ran into this a while back.

Search for a thread titled "pasting events in VMS 4 working oddly" and you'll see that we figured out that there was a behavior change as of VMS 4, but there is a workaround.

Here is the gist of the workaround, pasted here from the other thread:

There appears to be a change in behavior in version 4. The pasting behavior is different according to how you select your paste location. To see this, do a select of multiple events, with the events layered one on top of another.

(1) Move the cursor to an empty place on the timeline. WHEN YOU CLICK TO MOVE THE CURSOR, CLICK ON ONE OF THE 3 ==VIDEO== TRACKS. Do a paste. You should see the events collapsed onto each other on a single track, the track that you clicked on to move the cursor.

(2) Move the cursor to another empty place on the timeline. WHEN YOU CLICK TO MOVE THE CURSOR, CLICK ON ONE OF THE 3 ==AUDIO== TRACKS. Do a paster. You should see the events maintain their original placement on the separate tracks.

I suppose you could argue that it is a feature to be able to paste all to one track, but I can't imagine a case where you'd really want to do this. Maybe one of you lucky Vegas users can think of a reason?

In any case, this is certainly doable, just have to remember to be more particular about clicking.
