Problem cutting and pasting . . . .

I am having trouble with cutting and pasting:

I had my clips (avi files) in media pool, pulled them all onto the timeline, made them all into a group. No problem.

I select portions on the time line by going to the beginning of what I want to select, and holding down the shift key while I page-down and right arrow to get to the end point. So far so good.

If I hit the delete key, the video and audio that I've selected are deleted. No problem there.

But if I use edit>cut and then jump to the beginning of the timeline to insert (ripple edit is enabled) and then use edit>paste, only the audio gets pasted (or sometimes only the video). I tried this making sure both video and audio tracks were selected (click on video track box at left, ctrl-click on audio track box below it), but it didn't make any difference. During the selection process, it looks like both video and audio tracks are being selected.

What am I missing, and why does delete work but cutting and pasting is not?

Thanks?

Hi nolo,

You might try using Ctrl-A before you cut, and before you paste...

If you are working in one track with audio, you might try clicking on the first event you want to move and shift-click on the last one, to actually select events (as opposed to selecting a range of time). Then cut/paste.

Thanks, Marty, but I'm trying to move only a portion of an event (the material is captured from old videos, so the events aren't related to scenes). I'm going to go back and read the manual again, I can only think I'm just missing something blindlingly elementary.
