Problem going to myDVD

Bonefish wrote on 2/15/2002, 4:01 PM
I'm tried to burn two small VV3 projects onto DVD using myDVD to my HP100i. The first couple of times I used the VV3 MPEG2 format to render the project and went straight to myDVD to burn the DVD. The DVD started to play both files fine, but about half way through (20 seconds in on one project and about 1 minute in on the other) the audio cut out completely.

Without a clue how to fix that, I decided to go back to the original project, render it as an avi file, then convert it to MPEG2 with TMPGenc, then back to myDVD. For some reason this worked fine, however, would rather avoid the extra step if possible, or learn if there is some other way to do this more efficiently.

Thanks.

I've been burning with MyDVD and DVDitPE (and others) about 5 times a week and have never seen this.

You can pick up the latest shipping version of the MPEG encoder by downloading and installing the VideoFactory 2.0c update from:

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step2.asp?DID=337

This might fix your particular issue. Please let us know if it doesn't.

I just bought my VV3 a few weeks ago. Is the update you're referring to newer than that?

Yes it is. The shipping version of Vegas 3 is still the original build. Video Factory 2.0c was released after that and includes several fixes and enhancements to the MPEG encoders.

There is probably someplace else to point this out but is it just me that
can not figure out the updates page for sonicfoundry?

If you go to http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step1.asp?CatID=2
To look to see if there are updates for Vegas Video 3 it is not clear that there
is. There is some Vegas Video Update 2.0h. Is that to update some problem with Vegas Video 2 or 3..Ok click the link and see..Hmm totally unclear..But pretty
sure it would not apply given the dates on the updates but now we are pointed to
an update for a different product that might help problems with our product...If this is the case should there not be some link that indicates it?

I hate to complain since I suspect that perhaps there is something in the works to update the Updates page and the tidbit of info that we were given is a helpful hint in the right direction..

It is always anoying to try to help users and then have them complain about it.

So take this not as a complaint but as a suggestion.

On the updates page indicate the product name and versions of the product and
then have subpages (or sub-bullets) under the main product name and version that has name and version number of the particular patch or update.

And thanks for an amazing product.

Since I have just gone to the site and performed the download as suggested, I have to agree totally with the last post. I've installed the new file correctly, maybe, but will VV3 find it next time automatically? I directed it to my Vegas folder rather than the VideoFactory folder it was trying to create. Anything else I need to do? It is confusing that it does not appear to be a VV3 patch. Thanks again for the help.

I've downloaded the file now, but does it actually update the Main Concept MPEG2 encoder itself or do I need to tell VV3 to look for this VideoFactory file to use for the MPEG2 encoder?

VideoFactory 2.0c contains the fixes included in the upcoming VV3 update. All you have to do is install it and it will update the Mainconcept plug-in that Vegas uses. You can then uninstall VideoFactory 2.0c and the updated Mainconcept plugin will remain on the system until you uninstall Vegas.
