Problem Importing files

Hi all,

I have Vegas Movie Studio 9b (latest version). I had no prblems to begin with & everything worked fine on windows xp. After a few months I started getting this error code:

Then Vegas just shuts down. I have since upgraded to a new computer (vista 32 bit) ... done a clean install (download) and am still getting the same problem. Help desk have advised to clear registry & shut down everything else which I've tried .. still the same problem.

After playing around a bit I've found that if I convert the file using winavi (to avi format) I can import the file to Vegas but without the audio ,, I have to maually extract & import the audio seperate ... (original file is a VOB file). I can also import windows media files with no problems at all but thats it .. Vegas doesn't want to know anything else.

I have the latest Quicktime version and have downloaded the Vista Codecs (v.5.3.5) as recommended in another thread).

I can also import all the files to DVD Architect with no problem.

Any suggestions/ideas would be most appreciated ... and by the way I'm a newbie at all of this .. so please go easy lol.

Remove any such packages. The only third party package that is somewhat less-screwy with the system is the ffdshow-tryouts. Uninstall the Vista Codecs package and install this: Install the latest “generic build” of FFDshow at the “SVN builds by clsid” section. Make sure you’re downloading from clsid’s section.

Alternatively, use a third party tool like the freeware SUPER, and re-encode the VOB file to Huffyuv AVI. It will result in a huge file, but you won't be losing quality, and it will work with Vegas.

I've done what you suggested but Vegas still crashes when I try to import.

I'll give that other program a look but not too impressed with Vegas. It's a good job I've still got Nero on my old computer so at least I can burn things with no problems.
